Server Transfers - What was your experience?

Just a curiosity thing really, since server transfers have been a thing in classic for a little while, what has been peoples experience with them? Good, bad, or otherwise?

Also a question to people who did transfer, what were the restrictions on what you could take with you besides the gold cap? Or were there any?

Stalagg sucked. New server is great.

I transferred from my original server, Skeram, the day the service went live. I live on the west coast, but rolled an east coast server to play with friends who all quit before they hit 30. I was having a hard time finding a raid guild that raided at the times I was available, so it was transfer time. I did a tiny bit of research and ended up on Bigglesworth.

The experience has been great. I got invited to a really solid guild full of great people, immediately started raiding once I hit 60, and the overall server atmosphere is way better than where I came from. It was a great decision and great timing.

In terms of what you can and can’t take, I was able to take everything, but I didn’t have much. They have the rules on limitations here: https://worldofwarcraft.com/en-us/news/23237902/wow-classic-paid-character-transfers-now-available

Got off a Horde dominated pvp server and onto a pve server. Enjoying the game much more now.

Ah I’m glad Bigglesworth is working out better for you!

I wasn’t sure if there were any restrictions on things like your bank, which is why I asked.

Ah yeah I don’t think there are any item restrictions, just gold.

Was well worth it. I rerolled and let my previous characters get transferred over. Very much worth it since my starting server was pretty trash.

I personally think that server transfers detracted from server and character identity, and that Classic would be a better game if they had never existed.

The service is great, but my decision paralysis made the journey pretty convoluted.

I first transferred off from Kirtonos, because my brother stopped playing and I realized that I didn’t want to be a ganked and so I decided to transfer to Westfall PvE server. As soon as I did, I realized that my decision sucked and I wanted “back home” because I felt I was missing original community. I created a ticket and was reverted back to Kirtonos.

Soon enough I remembered why I wanted to transfer in the first place. The PvP was unbearable for me once again, and so I opted to transfer again. This time I chose Heartseeker. My logic being that it was a de-facto alliance PvE server with 80-20 ratio, and I could transfer back to my original PvP server again in four months when the cooldown was up, should the Blizzard find solution on horde BG queues and them camping alliance.

Now on Heartseeker I was happy at first, but soon enough I realized that I didn’t like being jumped on in the world in principle, and it did happen, and that I wouldn’t be able to get to the competitive state with my playtime ever.

And so now I’m waiting for cooldown to end to transfer this toon to Westfall once again, where my alt await, and where I feel my casual playstyle will be at home, and maybe I can finally find a guild.

Alliance players ruined Stalagg, unfortunately.
