So I am just getting back into retail after mainly only playing TBC for most of the SL expansion. I’m currently on a server / battle group that is pretty dead. Its not dead dead but its a medium population server and just doesn’t have the active feel im looking for. I was considering moving my 60’s over to Illidan or Area 52 but have also considered Thrall and Tich. I’m open to other servers as well but just picked those because of the high population. As the title says, I’m basically just looking server suggestions to.
A bit about my self. I haven’t seriously raided in a few expansions but would like to get back into just normal and heroic raiding. I’m not a huge M+ fan but will do 1 or 2 for the weekly vault. I love WPVP and RBG’s. Not sure if that helps narrow it down.

It depends. Area 52 and Illidan are hardcore/semi-hardcore players, if you’re looking for example, for a casual family guild then Area 52 and Illidan are not your best options in terms of guilds. Now Thrall is a wonderful server it has a variety of guilds. If you are looking for a semi-hardcore, hardcore, casual, family-friendly, etc. But, if you want full-on PVP with more options of PVP guilds then Tich is the best to go.
Forgot to mention this, but Illidan and Area 52 are mainly PVE servers, they have PVP guilds over there but not many not that I am aware of. I also forgot to mention this too, I’m not saying Area 52 and Illidan don’t have casual guilds or family guilds but they don’t have many. Not exactly really active ones either.

Yeah, no problem, it is a very friendly server I loved being on there. I hope you enjoy Thrall. (If you’re wondering why I left, it is because I got sick of seeing the same guilds over, and over. But that’s because I’ve been on that server for a while.)

I’m originally from that server. my friends and I migrated from it towards the end of MoP or early WoD, can’t rememeber, because it was completely dead. That was nearly 10 years ago. I’ve logged onto old characters a few times and yea, that server is dead. Makes me sad.

I made the switch to Area 52 and love it. Tich is very hard core centered on PvP and people weren’t as friendly in my opinion. They wanted to be the best and weren’t interested in things like helping out. I tried for days to find a guild in trade chat with 0 responses before I moved to Area 52. I moved to Area 52 because I’m a PvE’er mostly and their time zone is closer to my own which I think is a factor a lot of people overlook. Hard to find guilds to raid with when you’re the only person in a timezone 4 hours ahead.
Found a guild with friendly people immediately. I left soon after because they weren’t active but they were nice. Found a guild I love shortly after just by talking to random pugs from my realm. I like trade chat more, I see people just being stupid and funny in chat, not only spam looking for arena’s and rbg’s.

I agree with this 100%, I love Area 52. Sure, it might be toxic, but there are a lot of good people on there. And yes, trade is a lot of fun I enjoy trade quite a bit, though it has gotten me in trouble a few times but other than that it’s still a fun place to be.

A52 and tich might get absolutely booty blasted on launch of DF though. That’s the downside to the full servers, every two years you have to deal with queues for a few weeks.

From what I’ve learned, their queues cannot possibly be as bad as FFXIV’s when endwalker first came out.

Probably not, it’s usually just a few thousand.
But the threads will hit the forums saying Blizzard needs to fix it right now before they quit, like every other launch

true, you either need to take time off work to play or just not get to play for a couple weeks because when you get home thats a 6 hour queue baby
