I’m probably dating myself here, but when I was younger I played a text based MUD. Every 12 to 18 months, they would have a Player-Wipe, and basically mass delete everyone to have a fresh start. 30 years later, that MUD is still thriving while almost every other similar game has faded into nothing. That first 3 months of wiping was by far the most fun part about the game. Everyone would plan their time off work around it, stay up late to get “server first” awards, be the first to push harder content, etc. It’s the same thing that keeps Diablo feeling fresh, even though each season is esentially the same as the last – except for the competitive race to be first.
I really think WoW should do the same thing. Playing HC on a server where thousands are 60 and auto-farming end game content, feeding the AH, etc is fun, but it’s absolutely not he same as playing a fresh server.
Wipe one HC server every 12 to 18 months and it will never get stale. Thousands will reactivate their accounts to participate.

Definitely agree with the concept but I don’t think it should be limited to HC servers. Everyone knows fresh is best except blizzard somehow.

There is no way the majority of people will play hardcore on a server where their characters get deleted every year.

You don’t think so? They do it on Diablo – wha’ts the difference?
Good news, if you want a fresh hardcore experience you can delete your toon and have one.

That’s like saying to someone who wanted vanilla servers ‘just level to 60 on retail’.
It’s very very different, because you don’t experience the game in a silo. AH, groups availability, partners to do dungeons, number of players in zones – it’s all impacted. I can start a new toon any time, but if the server is dead it’s not much fun.
We have a long history now of new servers ALWAYS being the most populated servers. What this would do is make one server perpetually “new”.
Again Bollard, I agree with you. I think a server reset would keep things fresh and fun. Great idea!!!
None of this is an issue on HC. There are always groups at low levels and the AH isn’t particularly inflated because people keep dying.
We don’t need to wipe my 60s because you want to follow a streamer event every year.

I agree with you, except that it shouldn’t be done in HC. HC is always fresh, there is always a group of 60 dying and starting all over. You see tons of people across all zones.
If you don’t want inflated prices, you have SF mode.
