Layering will make the realms livable, and many players are expected to be tourists only. This is a good number.

And what if they are not tourists? What then? Also, is that just your speculation? I haven’t seen a single person here or on reddit claim to be one of these mythical tourists everyone talks about.

Then we fight over resources, gank till we can gank no more, and level up.

250k players in the us who want to play a pvp server in classic wow is not an outrageous expectation for long term player count. That means 50k people per server. WTF is blizzard thinking?

They are beyond arrogant and it needs to end. I subbed from 04 to all way to cata. I am not leaving.

Most private servers didn’t have that number, I’m sure with all their testing they know how to manage a population. I wouldn’t worry about it.

I am glad. I never got to exp vanilla launch started early 05. I get to experience massive queues , server crashes, and new servers and qqing.

There isn’t enough room in the world for this amount of people, you cannot just “handle” it. Private servers had like 6 minute timers for black lotus and that was with a 6k population, this will be outrageous.

Well, They only had 3 servers up for the global test launch, and that went pretty smooth. Granted, they took servers down for 2 hours to fix some bugs with spawn rates, but other than that, it really wasn’t too awful. I think you might be over estimating how many players will actually be playing the game.

As I said, they got good Data in the last 24 hours, and I imagine that is what they used to decide realm count.

I know plenty of people who didn’t want to play in stress tests, myself included, because you only play to 10. There will definitely be much more people than were in the stress tests.

I bet they are going off of stress test numbers and best to under predict than put out 100 servers and have dead realms.

It’ll be unplayable. You can assume 400k to be the absolute minimum and even fewer than that, and the servers still won’t be able to house that many.

Also, this number is VERY VERY VERY generous even when it loses a tons of players.

This means they never plan to remove layering.

Edit: Bwut pweople wont pway fur dat long as dey will in te first week. What about peak hours? There’ll be bad queue times, or layering will be used after Phase 1.

Tests are never the real numbers. Slizer is right there is at least 250k ppl ready to go

this is just a test

There are 11 realms for NA. That means Blizzard expects the total NA population of Classic to be about 35k by phase 2? That’s the only way layering can be removed.

That seems really low to me.

All private servers are also not legal.

Well maybe they have back up servers ready incase they need it. I mean after all, they have said the entire WoW team will be working on classic for launch and stability, so just calm down guys. Be excited.

Everyone’s so quick to be mad about everything these days. Sheesh.

It’s not a good number. It’s absurdly low. And their reliance on layering and opening up new servers with free transfers isn’t great either. Who’s going to want to pick up and leave their server? And Blizzard can’t force them to. So when Phase 1 ends what happens? Do they follow through on the promise to remove layering? Welcome to daylong queues.

If America has 1 million Classic players, that’s over 90k people on one server. Even with a 70% attrition rate, you’re left with around 25k server pops. Classic is going to have an insane player retention rate because a good percentage of the population are returning players who are already proven to love the game.

Classic is going to be a complete mess.
