Server mergers

Will Blizzard merge servers if the low pops stay low. I don’t want to spend a month or longer lvling just to not be able to get 40 people in a raid. I would also be willing to Realm transfer but I would rather they just merge dead servers(if that even happens).

I really hope so as I planned on Whitemane, but even in the early morning today it was a two hour wait so I rolled Kurinaxx

This was the entire point of not wanting to open up more servers than necessary for launch. Course the entitled people do not see it this way. They want refunds for sitting in a queue for 10 hours. Blizzard did not want the repeat of having dead and low populate servers. As it seems they now have exactly what they hoped to avoid. If Blizzard is at some point forced to merge servers again, like retail. The community that never blames itself will be no better than the one that is currently in retail. This player base has always been its worst enemy, not Blizzard.

Yeah but waiting 4 hours to get into a server when you only have 4 hours to even play is not realistic. So what would be the solution other than more servers and then merge them?

Wait a week to play. Queue times will stabilize.

Oh so not playing the game is the solution nice! what a realistic answer…

While that’s fine and all, I feel like if you have a subscription based service and you deliberatly know that ques will be huge… you should atleast give people a week play time for free if they have a subscription.

The point is lack of continuity and cohesiveness down the road, which is the same problem that retail has going for it now and has for many years. If you want that in Classic, then you might as well be playing retail. Blizzard, however does not want that, so people need to chill. There are already half of the current server with low population on them, which was not the intention from the beginning. Though like most of the self-indulged wienies over the years.

People need to have it now and then complain even more when things they were told from the beginning about what a company did not want to happen, happens. The self-indulged people them start to complain about wanting server transfers and server merges. Well they got the latter in retail and it made an already bad situation worse over time.

At what point in the last 15 years has Blizzard done anything remotely like give free play time for a day, much less a week. If you read the blue post over the last two days. Blizzard more than spelled out their own reasoning for not opening up more realms than necessary. I just logged into and half of the existing realms that are open are now low. So all this drama over I can’t get in has created the very thing Blizzard was trying to avoid. Course people only care that they could not get in. They were not worried about what comes 3 months to a year from now down the road. Blizzard was thinking down the road from the beginning, hence why only so many realms were opened. Now the population on some are going to be low and people will be complaining endlessly about that.

Yes. In fact, it’s the most realistic answer. Jump around to the lowest population server you can find, and play there now. Sit in queue so you can’t play at all. Or, you know, go fishing or something for a day or two. Read a book. Binge a bad TV show.

Does Blizzard want you in queues? No. Does Blizzard want you to play? Yes. But they have mitigations in place, they’re opening realms as necessary to handle load. Right now in the US, we probably have the equivalent of 50-75 Vanilla realms running right now.

So, “play later” is the realistic answer because this is the reality we find ourselves in.

I agree with most of your post, but believe it or not, Blizzard used to actually give game time credit. I actually have several in my account history from 2005.

Low doesn’t mean lack of people, it means low relative to high pop servers, which is why low pop servers also have queue times because they’re full.

Im in smolderweb when they opened it yesterday it was only server without a q so I made a character there. I just dont want a dead server, I did not ask blizzard to open a server I was in q in a dif server when the server was released and immediately switched. My question was seeing if blizzard was going to merge servers so players dont get screwed by blizzards own actions. I DID NOT ASK FOR MORE SERVERS! I only joined one this is not my fault and Im NOT asking for free game time you guys are off topic in here.

They used to allow transfers from high pop to the low pop in classic to help balance. Certain servers got to freely move to the lower pop realms. I’m guessing they will do it again.

No, it made entire game worse and even more so the overall community. Server merging and cross-realm became necessary because players, not Blizzard. I have always played on one of the higher pop servers, except when I was force to take a free transfer from ED to Maelstrom. Shortly after that Blizzard started merging battle groups with one another. It was an abortion of a mess between having every jacka$$ from the other 5 or so realms attached to deal with over top of the people on the main realm. This player base got worse from Cata forward as a result of the merging and cross-realming, not better. Hence why Blizzard does not want the same thing to occur in Classic.

It’s almost as if server merging is the lesser of two evils compared to 10 hour queues, especially if they had planned on doing it ahead of time.

They could have also just invested in better servers. Heaps of modern games support far larger numbers of players in a single world and if they’re already layering, why not do it further for the time being?

No, they’re not going to merge realms. Layering was put in place explicitly to avoid having to merge realms. Blizzard considers merging realms to be Very Bad. Crossing the streams Bad.

So, I can’t speak to the future of your realm other than there’s not going to be a merge in its future.

Thank you for the answer!

lol yea. they opened all these new servers 12 hours after launch. after 75% of the player base had spent 8 hours in a queue and 4 hours leveling. when you commit that much free time to a character/server and all your friends are on that server, rerolling is not an option. if blizz would have had all these realms available at launch this would be a completely different story.
