having no x-realm BGs would be a great way to ensure that factions remain relatively balanced.
and yeah opening up free transfers, the way it was handled in classic already, was a complete nightmare.

like many have suggested, make lotus drop like arcane crystals. 1 simple change to mechanic and you’ve deleted the mafia.

People would still abuse layer hopping to farm materials.

layering = bad
free, unrestricted server transfers also = bad
login queues are fine. people can play on a different server, and the lowest population servers should be merged when populations start dropping.
Layers are bad, but dead realms with paid xfers are worse, and they NEVER instituted server mergers until the damage is done and realm is toast.
Just have a couple servers with layers so when the herd is thinned out, like it always does, we don’t have any dead realms on a 12 month seasonal system.
One bad down tick in players and lights go out on many realms.
I’m curious if you have any theories regarding why that is the case.
Perhaps they expect that players will come back at the start of the next phase or big announcement and they’re wary of mergers for that reason. That’s the best theory I’ve got.
But yeah I’d prefer the mergers and so should everyone else I think.
Free transfers might be OK as long as they were faction locked this time, though.
I’d like to agree with you that it is because they’re waiting for players to come back with new content, but the proof is in the pudding, they don’t come back, servers die slowly, and then they present paid transfers.
Prevention > cure.
Don’t make so many servers in the first place, and that will reduce the chance of this happening, and will reduce the impact of when it happens.
they didn’t do this and ruined whitemane alliance in TBC. I only have faith in them to get 1 thing, right, just once…so hopefully that is small number of servers because they’ll botch the “correction”
This is only way to keep server more populated. spreading the population over 8-12 pve servers is a bad idea
