Server Latency - Instance Latency

Months of instance latency, battleground latency, transfer disconnects, sprinkled across our entire guild/server. World bosses seem to be causing huge lag issues.

No one can convince me that this hasn’t been getting worse and worse every expansion and lately just honestly embarrassing.

I personally have only had my internet service improve over time, can Blizzard work with ISPs and spend some money to improve this?

I don’t believe spending money can’t fix this it’s genuinely impacting the gameplay experience.

Hey there Fonics,

We appreciate you taking the time to report these problems you’ve endured over the course of several months. We aren’t currently aware of server-side issues that would be causing the persistent symptoms you’ve described, and so this could be an isolated issue. If you haven’t already, be sure to try these troubleshooting steps.

If you have no luck, let’s go ahead and have you run a ‘WinMTR’ network test while the problem occurs in-game so that we can further investigate potential network-related issues between your computer and the game server. Here are the instructions:

  1. Download the tool from this page
  2. Enter the game IP into the “host” field. The IP address for our games are listed on the WinMTR instructions page
  3. Start the test and play the game for at least 15 minutes. Ensure the problem happens while the WinMTR tool is running.
  4. After recording the problem data, click “export text” and save the WinMTR file in an easy to find location.
  5. Once you have that made, open the file. You’ll need to copy and paste the contents of the Text document into the post, and put four Tilde (~) marks above the WinMTR. It’ll look like this:
WinMTR goes here

If you have issues pasting here, please use Pastebin and post the link (ex: Pastebin (dot) com/123456).

Thank you for the directions, I’ve passed the link around to those that have also been affected and will update as appropriate.

Skelgarer’s steps are fine for finding latency issues to the Home Server, but the problems everyone runs into is based more around connections to the World Server. I find this is a better way to use WinMTR to pinpoint latency issues in specific zones.
