Server Lag

I don’t know if this has been answered already but my question is how is it possible that a private server like Nost and many others were able to handle big world pvp fights like this with almost no lag and were ran on servers in someones basement while multi billion dollar company activision/blizz cant get their servers to handle it? Is this an early aprils fools prank?

Their servers had one purpose, run the game.

The blizz servers have all sorts for crap running in the backround, anti cheat, subscrition checks, spell batching, more players and they are a prime DDoS candidate. I doubt there was a coordinated effort to DDoS someones private server. Data backups, and other things also play into the problems. Only they know how to fix their problem, whether it be more bandwidth, higher compute overhead or just better server code. Not to mention its the day the honor system releases and all those bored level 60s are coming online to get some action.

You can’t compare one to the other, it’s not how it works.

Forget the idea that “throwing more money at it” fixes things. That never works in hi-tech. That’s why so much innovation comes from tiny start-ups (at least in the last 50 years).

You are comparing 20,000 simultaneous customers with 200,000 simultaneous customers. Does having 10x as many customers matter? YES, on the internet.

Good point! Classic is a copy of Vanilla. Classic is NOT “the best Blizzard can do, in 2019”. It is not supposed to be.
