I’ve had this discussion with a guildie before. Does WoW need “server community” back? Like in Classic, where everyone knows each other and your reputation within your server matters.
Would it actually solve anything? Can it even work with how easy it is to make alts? Or is the real issue somewhere else? How would you bring it back?

My servers still have server identity, so I don’t know.
Is it gone?
Proudmoore, Illidan, A52, the RP realms, they all are known for something. Right or wrong.
I think he meant it more along the lines of Classic where you knew everyone on your server and you make a reputation for yourself. I’ll rephrase the post.

I’ve never known everyone on my server. But I did know plenty of people and know many on MG and WRA meow, it’s nice.

So, essentially asking if they should be more insular like they used to be. A fair discussion, I think, though I always wonder if going back to that would actually recreate the dynamic people remember.
It still does exist to some degree, too. On smaller servers, you see regulars in Trade chat and things progress naturally from that. I don’t know if extending that to group finder is such a good idea, though - server disparity is pretty serious.

Yea cuz there was no group finder , no one is in trade looking for groups
That could work. Let’s give it like a test run on the forums first. Everyone post on mains and have a public profile.
Okay, pony up.

I really want to say yes, although there are probably things I am not considering.
But back in TBC, I started about halfway through TBC, I remember looking for heroic groups we had myself as a Tank, sister as dps and brother in law as healer and we started to get to know the dps on our realm that could do decent dps and knew how to CC when needed.
We also did pug raiding with the same people every Tuesday for Kara, and on Fridays a Mag + Gruul group. It wasn’t anything serious but it was probably my favorite time ever in WoW.
I think my main consideration would be queue times. Server disparity would be a real issue.

It was a good thing and made for a better social experience - by far.
We traded it in for essentially accessibility (as in, people on dead realms have access to groups and content despite being on said dead realm).
Basically, we traded a more social experience for a better video game experience.
It’s hard for me to say that was the wrong call. WoW is a video game first and foremost.
I GREATLY miss pre cross-realm WoW. But I think as an overall product, the game was improved by opening things up. The game is MOSTLY dead servers. It makes sense to do something about it if actual server merges are off the table.

Raiding guilds on my server are dying as their numbers keep dropping. The flipside is people who felt limited to who they can raid with has now been lifted and they can go anywhere for better opportunity.
I have no interest in being popular or care if I’m disliked.
I usually keep to myself and don’t bother anyone in game.
My server is just known for being dead and people rather engage with those in their guild.

Yeah as much as I want “that time,” back I think it was not only servers but player attitude in general. If they changed it now they would have to consolidate a lot, and I mean A LOT of servers I doubt I would be able to find heroic dungeon groups even on my realm right now.
You can’t bring back a 20 year old feeling of community even if you had a Delorean. It’s gone. Server community and accountability went OUT the window with:
- LFD (formerly LFG)
- LFR
- Cross Realm Zones
- Server Mergers
- New generation of “gamers” (mostly kids who had an iPad to keep them quiet)
The only way you even come CLOSE is to go play classic, and even half of that chat is as jaded and cynical as we are. The past is gone.
it would not. WoW needs guild identity back first.
People just don’t seem to care anymore, the community is in a very different place compared to where it was back when our reputations mattered. I’m of the opinion that there’s no going back, i’d love to be wrong, but there are just some things you can’t undo.
We could try, except youd just report every comment we made in trade chat.
Damn TOS updates.
I miss 90s and 00s internet.
