Server Downtime - Why do people find this acceptable in 2023?

Send someone from blizzard to work at arena net and come back after getting their server hardware and update process.

over time if he makes his way up high enough 1 person could be enough… the issue is they think that their voice on the forums is going to be enough to swayed the devs into changing…

I prefer this way. reasons

  • they are there at the office
  • they can fix any issues as they form
  • they aren’t doing it at random times/days that could potential mess up my time as i know that tuesdays are patch day.

Ah. No, blizzard devs rarely (if ever) come to the forums.

Except outage windows are not required if you want to invest money into it. There’s no need for them.

It’s because WoW is ancient code. Mostly. Although I think it’s true too they save server costs and we pay for it.

Actually you just have a second environment stood up and fully patched and shift the DNS over. It’s almost as if…EVERY SaaS product in the world does this??? Romg. The only thing you might have to do is drop and reconnect.

No, it’s not more complex than doing it with web apps.

I don’t disagree with WoW being old code, but GW2 is also pretty old. (11 years vs 19 years) So if blizzard higher ups (the people who don’t play the game but make all the decisions) say no, that is the end of any conversation.

they could have started the process about 5 hours ago is all i have to say about it.

And FFXIV’s maintenance routinely takes like 12 hours :dracthyr_shrug: apples & oranges my guy.

None of what you said matters.

If you stage another environment, you do that work during the day. You still do the DNS cutover on Tuesdays.

Yeah, this would have been better.

code has NOTHING to do with eliminating outage windows. Literally nothing.

This basically explains everything about OP and this thread.

In the middle of the night? So you want people to have to go to work in the middle of the night just so YOU aren’t “inconvenienced”? M’kay.

The subscription price reflects any and all Maintenace which I am sure Blizzard has stated numerous times. If you don’t want to pay, you don’t have to play.

Pay in money, time, sanity.
Play in-game.

:person_shrugging: Not quite sure why they have that long of maintenance either tbh.

This isn’t even required. Just a stage an environment and cut the DNS over in 5 seconds.
