Server Choice

Hi. Newbie here. Is there a difference between servers Wow1 and Wow2? Looking to purchase a subscription. I’ve played several characters using the trial version on Wow2. Thanks for replies in advance.

Those aren’t servers. Those are WoW licenses. You’ll have different characters on either, so you’ll want to figure out which one you want to play.

Also, if you’ve bought Midnight, that is only applied to one license, unless you bought two “copies”. So that’s the one you’d probably want to fund and play.

Got it. Thanks for the reply Sniperorc. I appreciate it. Haven’t bought Midnight yet.

Welcome to Azeroth!

There are differences between servers, also known as realms, but WoW1 and WoW2, as you see them on your BattleNet client, are not servers.

WoW1 and WoW2 are your two WoW accounts within your BattleNet account.

BattleNet is a big holding account with Blizzard for all of your Blizzard games, not just WoW.

Within your BattleNet account, you might have a Diablo 4 game account and a Diablo 3 game account, and a Hearthstone account, and a WoW account.

The BattleNet account holds your personal details: name, contact, etc.

Each of the game accounts holds the state of what you have in that game. You can have separate WoW accounts, each with its own expansions bought, each with its own gametime paid for, each with its own characters.

I have 2 WoW accounts as well. In my case, that was an accident, I made mu WoW 2 account when I was new on a misunderstanding, but I ended up with one WoW account WoW1 on which I bought the latest expansion and paid for game time, and one WoW account WoW2 on which I have paid nothing and holds just a couple of low level free trial characters.

Servers (or realms) are a different thing. When you make a character, you decide which server it should be on.

Servers differ in time zone, language, whether they are Role Play, physical location (which can affect ping times), and population level and activity.

If you want to talk more about server choice, please do post again, but for now I will suggest the following guiidelines unless you have a reason to vary:

  1. Choose a server where your faction (Alliance or Horde) is in an overwhelming majority.
  2. Do not choose a “New Players” server.
  3. Do not choose a low-population server
  4. If you have a friend who plays, strongly consider joining his server.
