Seriously torn between mage & rogue

It’s driving me nuts. I’ve been listening to guides on each class at work and they both can do things that are super cool and unique. I don’t know how I am going to pick between a mage or a rogue.

It’s probably going to be either a gnome/human mage or a dwarf rogue. I plan on doing a bit of everything (pve/pvp, maybe getting silly with the rp crowd after a drink or two…)

If those were your choices…which would you pick?

Depends on what class fantasy you prefer and if being a stealthy guy floats your boat. They’re both awesome at PvP and damage. Mage life is very comfortable with food and teleports.

Druid - a bit of both?

Mage can earn over 100 gold an hour solo farming BRD… you should have a mage anyway (along with being able to sell stacks of summoned food/water plus portals)

Mage is a money earning machine and is also one of the top battlegrounds classes in the game… as well as any form of group PvP

Mage is also one of the top, safest DPS in the game and doesn’t require excess farming of resources to be there

Rogue is none of that…

But rogue does look really good even at end game clown pajamas outfit
the 1.12 rogue is NOT anywhere close to as good as the world of roguecraft videos show rogue (prior patches they were gods)

the biggest thing against mages… they look absolutely silly unless transmog is brought into the game… but they are the undisputed best class in vanilla WoW

Was stuck between gnome mage and ne rogue as my alt. I will be going gnome mage as alt.

Why not both?

Level them both to 20 and see which you enjoy more.

It comes down to whether you want to play melee or ranged. You can’t go wrong with either choice. They are both good in all content. Or just play both if you have the time.

I’m partial to both portals and picking your own fights. I decided on mage between those two. Although, I’m planning on playing on a pve server. Your server type could also be a big part of that decision.

Although, now… I’m torn between a shammy, mage, lock, or priest… I hate decisions.

Mages are fun. I really enjoyed mage in PvP during TBC, though I did not play a mage in Vanilla. Mages definitely have more utility and they are ranged kiting machines. If a more in your face, stunny, stealthy playstyle suits you better, go rogue.

Personally… I find mages a little overated…

Rogues are one of the most fun classes in the game imo.

Not that Mages aren’t fun… but there is something about rogues that make them a lot of fun.

Stealth and their ability to have A LOT of viable talent builds makes them have infinite playability in pvp imo.

For pve, the rogues role and rotation is a lot more simulating than a mage is… again, in my opinion…
You have to dodge things more since you are melee; overall it’s a more active role.

something else to consider…

I mained a rogue in vanilla up until naxx when i rerolled into a resto druid

even in a large, close knit guild… finding a group as a rogue is HARD… rogues were literally everywhere

Mages don’t have that problem… mostly because of superior damage and utility

Sheesh, tough decision. These posts have me starting to tip in the direction of mage though…

Thx for the info everyone.

If you want to do dungeons, at all, not a rogue.

There will be like a million and a half rogues per server. It’s excruciating to get groups as them. They’re great for pvp, but everything else not so much.

A rogue can do some serious damage. 'Specially with a WF totem.

Their CC can be unreliable, however.

You can also always make a rogue later…

Main a mage… play it and raid with it… then funnel all that extreme excess of gold you will have into your rogue

You will def have time and opportunity to level and play an alt inbetween phases

You seem to have missed the part of there being like a million and a half of them.

Raiding rogues are also one of the easiest classes to play period. So it’s extremely hard to get a spot when there is already like over a dozen in the guild wanting one of the 4 rogue spots.

I’m just saying they do great damage in dungeons and raids.

You’re not wrong when you say there will a ton of them, tho.

You will have to prove yourself as both. Doubly so as rogue.

That solidifies you never played classic. You don’t have to prove yourself at all. Mages use literally one ability in MC on repeat.

Rogues are not as easy but still pretty damn easy to play in dungeons and raids.

The honest reality as a rogue is you won’t get spots. Just you won’t. Not unless you already have full tier 2 and BiS and doing like UBRS.

Mages are common but nowhere near as common as rogues. They were the most played class.

Not sure where that “you never played classic” quip comes from when you disagree with someone.

You just basically agreed with me tho.

Mages have to prove themselves. Rogues really have to prove themselves.

Both jobs will be very common, however. Unless you’re talking very early. Then all jobs will be rare for awhile.

Except that is 100% not true in the slightest. In new servers there will be like 50% of the entire server player rogues and hunters. There will be maybe a few dozen druids because they suck to level and are horrid at max. No warrior will be prot leveling, and 90% will claim to be dps and refuse to tank.

Tanks will be rare, doubly so on horde. Rogues are a dime a hundred at virtually at points in classic. They’ll dig up the World of Roguecraft and all claim to be gods using the exact same cookie cutter build.

I say you never played, because you really are underestimating the amount of rogues that there will be.
