Agreed…favorite zone!
Well it also has large fungi and undead. But that’s where I’d say it’s similarity between the EPL begin and end.
There are obviously some reskinned models like the undead chimera. But I think most of the models are either new, or are so repainted so well that I can’t easily recognize it’s skeletal animation.
And while there’s obviously some parallel with the Scourge - this appears to be the true form of everything we’ve encountered. Everything you encounter here puts even the Lich King’s personal champions to shame.
I am looking forward to learning more about how Maldraxxus and Revendreth factored in to the Scourge, though.
I felt that the necromancy angle was pretty secondary to who the Maldraxians are. Their empire runs on it but is not necessarily defined by it, if you can get my drift. Perhaps it was just the big ogrish dudes but I felt like I was visiting an alternate Gorian Empire. Revandreth has the monopoly on ‘spook’, ‘noir’.
They’re both pretty spoopy. I guess it’s more blue vs white collar spoop.
I did bite the bullet today and join Maldraxxus as my Covenant, and all I can say is by the looks of it the Covenant Campaign is generally very good … but I really hope the Primus is not dead. The guy seems likes a really neat character, and with Krexus being so much of a let down it would be nice for the Primus to play a role down the road.
It was great. Bastion was boring as hell and even thinking in character my guy would have been like “you guys are a bunch of wimpy cult weirdos.” Fly into Maldraxxus and the pit boss is all “Who are you? Trick question: no one cares. Get in the pit maggot.” Felt like going home on my DK.
Idk, I would say spooky hooded muscular guys/gals and armored skeletons fit within context of their house basically being “the soldiers” of Maldraxxus.
Like, they may not be nearly as varied as the aberrations from the house of constructs or the goop monsters of the house of plagues, but they certainly have a place at their side.
Again, I get that they may not seem all too great in comparison to the house of horrors that are the constructs or the eccentric plague doctors of plagues, but I feel like that’s cuz their main leader got axed off right away and their primary representatives atm are C-list Azeroth characters. Like, I totally understand where you’re coming from. They are kinda boring cuz we don’t really see any notable examples of them aside from Krexus, who dies, and Vyraz, who’s a traitor we need to eventually kill.
I mean, Vole, Heirmir, and Maevix are among the chosen, iirc. They certainly have their charmers.
Honestly taking a closer look at them reveals some subtle characterization. I noticed one of the biggest monsters patrolling your base wears a crown of flowers on their head. Blink and you’ll miss it detail but fun little personal choice.
I thought Maldraxxus was fine, it’s good to see these Death realms with creepy aesthetic not be out and out stereotypically evil as they would appear to be.
I still feel like this realm should belong to spirits that enjoy undeath and revel in it, if Kel’thuzad is there then I can see how he is a perfect fit for the place in that sense.
I still think the Revendreth realm has become my most favorite and calls to my heart more. I would have found it just overrated because edgy aesthetics tend to be so wildly popular but having quested through it I really did come to appreciate the Venthyr, how they were rather morbid but very elegant and refined at the same time, how they offered a vampire race that were not just more quest mobs to kill.
Couple that with my natural love of the gothic architecture style, part of which was why Gilneas became a favorite for me, and I easily just fell in love with that covenant the most. Not going to pick them on this character but definitely have on my Void Elf Rogue and likely my Worgen characters in the future.
I thought Maldraxxus would be my least favourite zone but I was pleasantly surprised!
Loved the story, as well as the detail that went into the zone. I thought each of the houses were brilliant, the music was awesome and I would protect Plague Deviser Marileth WITH MY LIFE.
I’m not going to spoil but ughhhh I LOVED the quest that went into why the Ashbringer is in Maldraxxus.
It was a great explanation on why two great Paladins could wind up in such drastically different afterlives, and I also appreciated how it explained undeath doesn’t ‘damn’ the soul.
And it struck a cord that I can’t get into without spoiling or getting too personal. But I can say it gave me a moment of introspection where I looked at some miserable memories and went- yeah if I did forget that I’d probably be a worse person or at least certainly not who am I now.
