Worthwhile class to main? I’ve been healing and tanking m+ as of late, but kind of looking for a switch. I solo a lot, do a few bgs, and enjoy m+. Virtually all of it pugging. I’m thinking rogue, possibly hunter, would be great for this. Thoughts?
I enjoy my rogue he’s assassination and always has been, through the highs and the lows and always seems to be enjoyable in all forms of content.
Yea, rogue seems to be desired in both pve and pvp… unless I’m mistaken.
It’s got 3 specs to choose from.
Sub has always kind of been the PvP go to spec.
Outlaw is killing the AoE game in m+
And sin has been your Jack of all trades middle man.
Plus, rogue seems to be built for the solo man… out in the open world picking your battles.
I wouldn’t overplay the love coming from others here with regard to M+ - there is a lot to liek about Rogue from a gameplay perspective but you need to be real.
Outlaw is pretty decent M+ (solid middle of the pack) but brings zero utility. If you’ve put together M+ groups you know that you rarely have a reason to invite rogue because there is always a better class. Most weeks people are going to stack at least two ranged, for the one melee dps they bring there is zero reason to bring a rogue (outlaw does ok damage but brings literally nothing of value beyond ok damage).
Every idiot on these forums who has never actually tried pugging keys as a rogue will now come in and say something about interrupts and stuns. It’s total nonsense - rogue stuns aren’t that amazing, they lack any form of aoe interrupt, and kick isn’t even the lowest cd interrupt. Shroud used to matter, no one is looking for that in a queue now.
I’m not saying you shouldn’t play rogue but you should know you’re in for a pretty tough path as you progress up M+ keys. There just literally isn’t a reason to bring a rogue over another class and the anti-melee nature of SL makes it a lot worse.
A good chunk of the idiots out there also look at the very top of the mythic leaderboard and get excited about outlaw being well represented. Unless you are competing for the world’s best you’re far better off looking at rogue representation around the keys you do and you’ll see that it’s crap.
Final word of warning is that there is no Rogue spec that’s good at all aspects of the game. Sub (and to a lesser extent Sin) are ok/mediocre in PvP, Outlaw and Sin are ok raiding and Outlaw is ok for M+.
It’s not great that our one spec that is decent in most PvE is absolute garbage in PvP. It’s a lot easier to pick a class where you can faceroll all three aspects of the game from the same spec.
Idk what ur talking about outlaw is amazing in mythic plus.
We have a enraged soothe.
Our kidney shot makes the target take 10% more damage from all sources for 6 seconds.
Three extra range as a melee. Shroud, kick and gouge. Also a sap and a blind.
Our damage ain’t too bad at all.
Evasion let’s us tank for ten seconds and we can cheese a lot of mechanics with magic immunity.
Also got tricks of the trade which help tanks with aggro.
Talenting into feint also makes us super tanky for specific moments of huge damage incoming.
Our only weakness is huge aoe pulls. We only have one attack that is aoe uncapped and it’s on our last talent tier.
Also outlaw is the only spec that can talent in improved blind that reduces blind Cooldown by 30 seconds and increased range by 15 yards.
A 30 yard range blind is awesome for ninja capping, we ain’t too bad in rbgs because of it.
you are posting on a shaman, dps on that for those easy invites to keys
@Trilsen, were you posting about Alts on GD?
This is coming from someone who has at least one of every class max for each expansion since MoP… I definitely have a problem settling with one class and like to see how they vary.
Rogue is fun, but it really doesn’t hit certain points for me. The biggest one is that after my time of playing, I tend to enjoy tanking content. If you have played other classes with multiple roles, you’re really going to be disappointed with the inability to flex between needed roles when the group or friends call for it.
Further, the “solo-ability” of rogues isn’t the greatest overall. While they can play solo, they’re not really the most enjoyable solo unless you have the pinnacle of equipment (and if you’re still motivated to play without exploiting gold for sub time after reaching that plateau then all the more power to you). You’re almost always going to be best off trying to get a group of people to play with on a consistent enough basis, like joining a simple guild, and just seeing how things go. Sometimes it doesn’t work out and that’s okay, but when it does work, it makes the game leaps and bounds better overall.
End of the day, focus on the community you want to play with instead of the class. If that doesn’t really interest you, then I think you’re really just best off playing through bouncing around and trying what’s out there. Once you’ve exhausted the differences, either move on or try to help others with what you’ve learned along the way.
Good reply. Yes, I was posting on GD. Looking to stick with one… really appreciate the reply and your perspective!
I’ve got a rogue, monk, and druid and rogue is my fave by far. Haven’t played the other 2 since SL launched though
Feral druid could be a good main option too. Looking very solid maybe even best melee next patch for pvp.
Not sure about pve but you have your tank/heal options if you want to go back to your roots.
I personally vibe more with the rogue fantasy though.

We have the worst enrage dispel in the entire game, by a longshot. It has such a long cd and is melee ranged which makes it unreliable as a solo enrage dispel.

You very rarely kidney shot in m+. Gouge achieves the same thing without dumping 5 combo points. If there is a stun needed the last person that should stun is a rogue because we are the only class that guts our damage when we do use our stun. Just have the pally HoJ it. Randomly stunning some mob in the middle of a pack that you’re kiting just breaks up the pack and makes AoEing them harder and actually reduces dps. If your stun isn’t a large aoe, 9/10 times it’s bad to use.

Out of the hundreds of M+ I’ve run I can count on 1 hand how many times I needed to blind and most of those blinds were on the big slimes on first boss in plaguefall. Same can be said for sap. There is the 1 sap in mists that you do and sometimes you sap a mender on the stairs before first boss in spires. These are not specific to sap though, many CCs from many classes can be used.

You redirect your threat to the tank, you are typically the lowest threat in the party. If you are having to use evasion to tank you’ve already wiped.
No offense but you have crap gear and you are doing lvl 6 keys. Things change. The truth about rogues in m+ is that they are not desired. They do well at the top of the ladder because of tricks spam so the tank can kite like crazy in +20s and very rehearsed specific shroud skips while having decent survivability. None of these are needed in pugs and it shows by the lack of invites you get as a rogue. Even today with 1400 io and 226 ilvl 8/10 mythic and 100+ 14+ keys timed I have trouble finding groups to do the weekly. People do not want rogues. Period. 3/4 of my m+ career has been spent in LFG getting spam declined. This is why I stopped climbing after getting my +15 achievement. The downtime is just insane. There have been days where I spent 4+ hours trying to join a group. I have screenshots to prove it. My record was getting declined nearly 75 times in a row. You would have to be a moron to play a rogue in today’s game knowing all of this. Unfortunately most of us didn’t know this when we took our rogues into shadowlands.
PvP is different. Rogues are a super high skill ceiling class that can be decent if you are the .01% of players that are; 1) Freaking excellent at wow pvp and play nearly perfectly and two 2) have a really good mage partner. If you do not satisfy both of these prerequisites then playing a rogue is a waste of time. You could just be a warrior and play with your feet with some random pug healer from LFG and easily climb higher than your rogue.
Ye rogue is fun
I like how you are ignoring my plus 11 and 10 keys. I’m on my Second/third week of gearing this rogue and so far I haven’t had any problems getting in groups.
You seem like a very negative person and 16s aren’t high enough for getting shelved as a rogue. I don’t believe you when you say you’ve tried queuing for four hours with no luck.
Bertha pretty much hit the nail on the head. Anywhere up to 14s really isn’t too much of a problem for getting invites right now (we’re late in this patch, the further in we get the more that number gets bumped up).
You will hit a rock hard wall at 15+ for pug invites. To be clear, it’s not a question of whether rogues are capable of running higher keys - it’s simply that they are never the best option so there is no point to bringing one. The fact that this xpac is so melee unfriendly exacerbates an already bad situation.
Well that’s unfortunate. I had high hopes for my rogue
Then by all means keep pushing. I have nothing to gain by you staying or leaving. I honestly don’t give a crap what you do. I do, however, try to communicate clearly and as accurately as possible the realities of whatever conversation I am a part of. If this comes off negatively then it’s probably because rogues aren’t in a super good spot. I don’t have some sort of agenda, I just simply share my real world experiences and the communitive experiences of others that have shared with me with a bit of common sense splashed in. You not liking them is irrelevant and calling me negative is a bit silly because everything I shared are simple facts that you can research yourself and I’m sure many other experienced rogues would agree with me. Stop burying your head in the sand by attacking others and try to digest what is given to you. Even if you keep pushing on your rogue, keeping this information in your head while pushing forward may be useful when you are more experienced.
That’s great man. I just think it’s funny how you saw my lowest mythic plus run and went off with that instead of atleast saying 9s, kind of disingenuous.
Keep doing what you’re doing man, you are a great help to everyone I’m sure
It’s because every single level under +14 is worthless. When it comes to finding a group a 13 is just as useless as a +2. There is no competition for invites because not many people are spamming those. Things do not change until you hit 14.
14 is the wall. Not 15. +14s are the wall because that where you get 226 gear from. Noone gives a crap about anything less than that. This means that once you leave your safe space of keys lower than 14 you are going to be competing against the best geared meta dps classes in the game for that spot. You think someone is going to take some 210 rogue to their 14 when 55 other dps players with ilvls of 224+ on meta classes also applied for that spot? Hell no. You will be left in the dust and they are going to pick up that 224 hunter / mage / lust / battle rez class instead that is just trying to get their weekly vault done.
So excuse me for not saying that you did just a super swell job on your big +11! I really am proud! Just remember that it means actually bupkis. The game literally changes drastically once you get to +14s and being deflective won’t change that.
