Seriously Confused: Lore/Story

I am trying to work my way through the BFA story line. In the middle of the WAR an event happens on the ocean while chasing some ships. (sorry no spoilers)

During that part of the story, you deviate to talk to the Heart of Azeroth who again asks for help. OK fine. I do that little side mission and upon exiting the Heart after the first major advancement I get an auto accept quest “An Unwelcome Advisor” where the quest text says something to the effect of “Now that Horde and Alliance are working together” Wait a sec… hold up. What is going on?? I was just in the middle of the beginning of a war. Whats up?

The power of friendship happened :rainbow:

The ship and Naz’jatar bits are from 8.2. The quest “An Unwelcome Advisor” is from 8.3. It’ll make sense if you finish the 8.2 content.

An Unwelcome Advisor is the start of the 8.3 questline. Blizz set it to unlock once you finished the Nazjatar intro and Heart Forge quests. Just so it’s easy for alts to jump right into it.

But 8.3 stuff happens after 8.2 (Nazjatar) and the end of the War Campaign chronologically. So you could hold off on it till you finish the rest if you wanted.

In BfA they let you skip chains after they are relevant so you can jump into the latest patch. Fortunately someone asked me before how you experience the “correct” order of events in BFA. Hope it helps

  1. Complete zones, Zandalar footholds up to the point where you earn the achievement [Ready for War] . This the end of the 8.0 War Campaign

  2. Next do Pride of Kul Tiras which begins with a quest [What You May Regret] from Genn Greymane

  3. (a). Complete the 8.1 War Campaign which starts with [The Calm Before] and ends with [As The Dust Settles]
(b). Begin the Night Warrior quest line which starts with [On Whispered Winds]

  4. (a). Continue the 8.1.5 War Campaign which begins with [Loose Ends]
(b). Complete the 8.1.5 N’zoth quest that begins with the Azsharan Medalion that drops from the WQ - Naga Attack!

  5. Begin the Nazjatar questline which begins with [The Wolf’s Offensive]

  6. Work through the Nazjatar questline untii you hit the quest [A Brief Respite] which will continue the 8.2 War Campaign story

  7. Finish the 8.2.5 storyline which begins with [The Eve of Battle] from Shaw on the Wind’s Redemption

  8. Continue the finale with the 8.3 storyline [An Unwelcome Advisor]

Blizzard doesn’t take into consideration returning or new players may want to do the storyline in chronological order.

So after doing the intro you’re typically met with a face full of “go here and start this questline” quest.

Coming back and doing legion or BfA content is kind of like watching Lost with the seasons out of order.

Entertaining but barely makes sense when it’s in order.

Ok… makes a little sense. I see what they were trying to do, but that was rather confusing.

the ships were 8.2 the unwelcome advisor is 8.3.

nzoth happened on 8.3 and we have to work together (again)

The timeline basically goes:

8.1 - Faction War, sacking of Dazar’alor
8.2 - While pursuing Jaina after she flees from Dazar’alor, Azshara sucks Jaina, Lor’themar and Thalyssra into Nazjatar, where we fight against her and ultimately defeat her, and end up releasing N’zoth. Faction war functionally ends here.
8.2.5 - SoO 2.0 happens due Sylvanas’ cumulative shenanigans and Sylvanas saves us a repeat raid by denouncing and abandoning the Horde. Faction War officially ends here.
8.3 - With Sylvanas out of the picture and more reasonable people being the major voices in the Horde again (see: Baine and Lor’themar), Horde and Alliance do what they always do and murderhobo their way into N’zoth’s house and then fry him with a giant bugzapper.

Barely makes much more sense even when in order.
