[serious] What does windfury actually do? Is it in any way even useful?

Not trying to be an idiot, but does WF actually do anything for us? 2 extra normal attacks? so like very minimal damage mitigated by armor? Any other class get actual powerful abilities that trigger 10x more frequently than WF. what does WF even do anymore?

Windfury used to be a haed hitting ability. And it had the chance of procing off of itself. It was a good ability but it was nerfed by blizzard to what it is today. If you had played enhancement in vanilla-mop it was awesome to see the proc visual and watch hp bars drain.

It give more chance to proc stormstrike, that pretty much it.

And the maelstrom gains if you use forceful wind talent.

Windfury only do damage on special case like the 8th boss in bod where the elemental can’t parry our attacks so windfury proc actually did damage.

its a maelstrom generator and because of forceful winds it a ramp up mechanic now which sucks.

i vote for full removal of forceful winds and buff windfury damage to make it feel more like the old enhancement shamans.

Idk some genius at blizzard thought that all shaman signature attacks should be resource generators and therefore weak attacks

forceful winds is the issue if its removed windfury can get a flat damage buff instead of a ramp up.

On it’s own? No. Windfury isn’t worth the spot in the spellbook. But it is useful in triggering other on-hit effects. If you want to use a Primal Primer build, then it’s going to be a maelstrom generator. If you want to use a Stormstrike-focused build, then it’s going to be useful in getting more Lightning Shield damage.

Windfury’s biggest issue came from the fact it was balanced around an Artifact ability in Legion that got removed.

Doom Winds
1 Min CD
Unleashes the inner power of the Doomhammer, causing all auto attacks to trigger Windfury, and increasing damage dealt by Windfury by 200% for 6 sec.

This was actually not a bad ability. Except it doesn’t exist anymore.
So, yes: WF is literally there for a small amount of MS and a SS proc

It may seem negligible at first glance to mearly cause more auto attacks but lets look closer. Is more attacks per second really negligible?

Passive ability, Stormbringer:
“Your weapon attacks have a 5.1% chance to reset the remaining cooldown on Stormstrike, and cause your next Stormstrike to deal 25% increased damage, cost 100% less Maelstrom, and trigger no cooldown.”

Instant Ability, Flametongue:
“Scorches your target, dealing (14.742% of Attack power) Fire damage, and enhances your weapons with fire for 16 sec, causing each weapon attack to deal up to (0 * Attack power) Fire damage.”

Passive ability: Maelstrom Weapon
“Your auto attacks and Windfury attacks generate 5 Maelstrom.”

Talent passive ability: Hot Hands
"Melee attacks with Flametongue active have a chance to make your next Lava Lash cost no Maelstrom and deal 100% increased damage:

Talent ability: Hailstorm
“Frostbrand now also enhances your weapon’s damage, causing each of your weapon attacks to also deal [ 3.16% of Attack Power ] Frost damage.”

So as we can see, there is a lot of benefit to more auto attacks per second as opposed to a mere damage increase. It triggers multiple abilities.

Also, here’s another ability with Windfury Synergy:
Talent Passive: Elemental Spirits
" reduces the cooldown of Feral Spirits by 30 seconds, and and causes you to spawn two wolves in any combination from a pool of 3 Elements that provide the following buffs to you for the 15-second duration:

Fire - Irrelevant
Frost - Irrelevant
Lightning - increases the damage of Stormstrike and and Windfury attacks by 35%

I hope that helps

Windfurry is a decent chunk of your dps as a Enh Shaman because it does as Grimvolt said. Plus with corruption activating on abilities Enh works better than most because Windfurry can proc them.
