Serious question: worth leveling?

I am leveling a rogue at the moment, but I see a lot of negative comments about the rogue in general.
The serious question is…is it worth leveling?
I’m looking for a fun class and I like the “theme” of the class. Currently leveling as Outlaw. But I don’t want to waste my time if at Shadowlands level they turn out to be a floppy d1ck.
Is Outlaw good for leveling and at higher levels is it still worth it? and what about the other specs strengths and weaknesses.

Every class forum has negative crap in it, just trying to clear the air and find some truth.

Outlaw is at most middle of the pack in DPS ranking but you have to work way harder than other classes to achieve that due to all the buff management.

Save yourself the time.

If you want to play a caster play a lock/mage or boomy

If you want to play melee play a warrior/ww//ret

If you want to heal play hpal/disc/rsham

Rogue isn’t worth leveling rn especially if you have never played rogue before

…well this is disappointing.

Rogues are somewhat decent in mythic plus and ONLY as outlaw. All other forms of content rogues are pretty trash tbh

Especially pvp. Rogues lose to basically every class in a 1v1 and are once again cc bots foe the team.

Play something else that’s OP and actually have fun would be my advice. My monk is 197 ilvl and I am CLAPPING people. Monks are basically the better version of rogues.

Levelling a Rogue right now is probably a bad idea.

Rogues are medocre at best right now and the 9.0.5 PTR ignores the Rogue Class almost completely beyond a rather pointless venthyr ability change.

I guess I’m an outlier for the replies, but I am loving Outlaw rogue PvE. I can pull great numbers for the entirety of this raid tier, excluding Mythic raiding that I’m not likely to touch, and I’ve got a ton of great utility for M+.

Rogues can get away with so much more than other classes, with vanishing out of a fight going south, grappling hook having huge range and a short cooldown, cheat death to ignore what would have been an instant death, feint for insanely good damage reduction from AoE and running through fire, cloak of shadows to remove heavy magic debuffs and trivialize instant kill mechanics… Blind, gouge, cheap shot, kidney shot, distract, sap…

Outlaw is also not cooldown reliant compared to other classes and specs. You’ve got one major cooldown, and you use it whenever it’s available, because it’ll almost always be available again for burst phases.

Roll the bones RNG is so much more friendly this expansion now that slice and dice is baseline, and the conduit to give you extra dice rolls on finishers/ambush eliminates the worst of the RNG.

Roll the bones and slice and dice are you only buff upkeeps, and the latter one occasionally just get refreshed naturally due to roll the bones random buffs. They are easy to keep 100% uptime on.

Literally press Blade Flurry on cooldown to cleave off whatever target you’re focusing, and Acrobatic Strikes lets you avoid certain aoes altogether and stick to targets better than any other melee in the game.

The downsides? They require a bit of gear to start feeling good, for me it took till about 180ilv (which is doable just by completing the covenant campaign now). I hear leveling as outlaw doesn’t feel good, and I believe it because a lot of their rotation is fluid only with a level 60 conduit (legendary helps a teensy bit too), unless you can hit insane haste values as a lowbie. Assassination is considered undertuned, Subtlety is interesting and absolutely usable in all PvE content that isn’t Mythic Raiding (which is strict enough atm)… and I guess Outlaw is a very easy spec if you’re not into that?
Rogue Torghast also isn’t nearly the same powerhouse as some other classes.

Seriously. I love rogue, and I love outlaw more. I have nothing but praise for it right now in PvE. It’s easy for me to play, and I do big damage, and it’s easy for me to teach.

If you want to learn a unique class that has a high skill ceiling and floor in both pve and pvp, you should go ahead and level one now.

Most negative complaints you see on forums are usually non-constructive and from people who are inexperienced or straight up bad.

Rogues are in a bit of a weird spot right now dps wise. We have become more of a stun bot than a hard charging dps killing machine in pvp unless you out gear your opponent. PVE wise we are fine for all but a top 10 guild. All of that said, don’t worry the class is a blast to play.

We all get caught up in wanting to top the dps meters and 1-2 shot an adversary. It is human nature, we all want to be the best. If you love the theme (assassin striking from the shadows) and accept that it takes working towards a high skill level to consistently be at the top of your game then level on.

However, if you want a more casual play style, that is easy sauce/face roll, you might seriously consider another class as mentioned above.

The choice is yours, of course, but know that the brotherhood awaits you whether it is as a cohort or as another immediately forgotten honor kill…

All classes and specs are viable if you’re not attempting to do the highest of the high end of stuff. Anything can clear a +15. Some classes have it easier than others so decide based on that.

No.

Do not level a rogue now if you plan on playing end game content.

Between PvP, and PvE, other specs bring more utility, damage, and survivability to the table. Unless you enjoy an uphill fight, and I mean rocky mountain level, play something else.

If you just want to play a rogue to play a rogue, then there’s nothing wrong with that either.

Because there’s no pickpocket minigame…

I’d say play something else.
But also makes me hypocrite.

For real. I’m out here pickpocketing in mop still.

The good news is I’ve got enough squeaky bats piled up in my bags from the Revendreth mobs that I’d be able to distract an entire army of dogs if I ever came across one…

Some of us played rogue when it was actually a good and cool and fun class, and that’s why we are negative nancies on the forums. We have experienced the class in its prime and we just can’t let go.

The biggest problem for Rogues right now is that even if you pick the best spec for a certain type of content you’ll be mediocre and you’ll suck at all other content.

Outlaw is ok for M+ but sucks for PvP.
Sub is ok for PvP but sucks for M+.
Raiding almost requires switching specs but Sub/Assassination are the two worst performing specs in the game if you play them through the whole raid.

We bring no utility and heaven forbid a rogue burst an undergeared player with no trinket in World PvP - the forum will erupt in tears.

I still like playing Rogue but it’s one of the worst classes in the game right now - the weaknesses are amplified if you prefer to do multiple types of content.

You may be ‘pulling big numbers’ in raid compared to your guild but rogue numbers are poop compared to equally skilled / geared players on good classes.

Sure anything CAN clear +15 but enjoy sitting in q for 3 hours finding a group dumb enough to invite a rogue.

Most complaints are warranted. Some are ridiculous. The ones here on this page so far are accurate other than we lose 1v1s. As sub we probably are the best 1v1 class in the game if we have LoS to kite around.

ok, so I have a Survival Hunter I can level. Think that’s a better fit?
