Square Enix had an overall loss in their last earnings report. They really only had 1 game out of their portfolio that made money.

probably. But selling it to a direct competition is probably the stupidest thing you’d wanna do. They wont make the game better but just flat out kill it.
Giving WoW better handlers won’t kill it.

Doesn’t sound like a smart investment. FF14 team actually handle customers well and when they screwed up, they owned up and fixed stuff. If they put the money into buying wow…it would make no sense to sink it than double dip and basically run a MMO mafia

FFXIV is bad though. Their game came out after and it’s combat, end game content, and pvp are all far worse. The only thing they have going for them is a weeb aesthetic.

At least it could get a cool CGI cutscene on the way out should they decide to shut it down. 
All we have now is a game dying a slow, agonizing death with nothing cool to look forward to.

I’m sure Square-Enix would totally love competing against themselves and totally wouldn’t completely decimate WoW and shut it down or anything like that. FFXIVs biggest draw is being WoW for people who don’t want to play WoW really.
I think it would mostly come down to how much profit they could make after buying it. In its current state it’s probably not worth it for how little they’ll get in return.
Given they made their big splash and got headlines a few months ago because of WoW refugees they have a heavy interest in seeing WoW die/fail(…edit: Mind you from a “business” perspective. I doubt Yoshi would view it that way)
And people want to hand them the keys to decide what to do with it?
