So im considering swapping my main to be a monk.
Im levelling one up as WW and its a lot of fun, and i really enjoy the animations.
Theres something very appealing about just kicking your enemy in the face.
Theres a lot i like about the class so far, and a lot I don’t.
Pros: windwalker is fun
Covers all 3 roles
Looks awesome
Cons: melee range
Cant just tag things from a distance
Class fantasy feels wrong if youre not playing pandaren
How is the class at doing old content?
How well does it solo current world content?
Im mainly a solo world player but i do lfr and heroic dungeons.
Once upon a time i did healing for mythic+ and normal/ heroic raiding. I dont any more but it would be nice to have the option to return to it should i wish which is why im thinking of rerolling.
Warlock is awesome but no healing spec.
Edit: i think ive made my mind up, and its priest.
Its got the healing spec, a ranged tag, the fast pace, the cool stidf like slow fall and a party buff, and i dont need to change gear to change spec.

Edit again: levelling up a new monk and am having lots of fun with it.
Ive run my level 70 monk through some old dungeons and theyre super fast. So bettet at old content than i thought a melee would be.
We will see where this takes me.

Final edit to this: its been a couple of months since i swapped my main to be a monk and it was totally the right decision.
Its the best ive ever felt on a class.
I’ve been playing a Mist Weaver and love it, for many of the same points you made. I did stick with Panderan for the look and animations. I mainly solo and do random dungeons and find I can get through about anything ok. Not that you should do Mist Weaver, just saying I have a blast with monk so far as well. I do have a Wind Walker and Brew Master at really low levels, I’ve enjoyed both for the little I played them. Mist weaver just stuck though.
All 3 monk specs are really unlike any other in the game.
Burst moblity as a monk is absolutely insane if you have all of your cds on you outrun anything in the world, and in a lot of cases other players too if you’re doing pvp.
They have unorthodox utility in the form of ring of peace (zone denial)
Small auras (close to heart healing increase , the avoidance one)
And you have a taunt so if the tank is not taunting mobs out of the bad … you can take matters into your own hands …
Ring of peace is my favorite group utility, even as a non tank spec I always keep an eye on my casters to make sure they’re not getting swamped by melee adds.
Iono if i want to give you the truth or not, but i’ll start with the lie and give a warning for the truth.

Monk is the greatest class in the game and to this date, it’s never been better, you should play! Monks are as rare as asians in the united states!

yeah if you are like the top 10% of players; of course you’ll perform better than 90% of players regardless of what class they play, but lets be honest. You can’t compete with people of your level of skill if they played a meta class.

It has decent mobliity, a neat mastery, I like how it looks spell wise, pretty good mogs, does decent aoe, I like it for solo content. I think it would bracket really well into the content you’re doing, plus it gives the opportunity at later points to try other roles if thats your jam.
I’ve been a MW main since the end of WoD. I absolutely love the aesthetic and the animations, though they could use some updates. The class fantasy is just fun.
I’m a person who never swaps specs when leveling. So I do everything in MW spec. Leveling isn’t slowed too much and you can handle your own against most open world stuff. Soloing old content is also easy. If you don’t mind swapping specs for stuff like that then you have the best of all worlds being a hybrid class.
When it comes to other races playing monk, I have a pretty extensive back story for my character that would be too long to post here but it blends elements of my race and the class very well…imo.
All of this said, monk is in bad need of a rework. Specifically our class tree. It is full of bloat and garbage filler with terrible connections between talents.
Because I don’t play DPS/tank specs I can’t speak to their spec trees but there are a lot of people asking for reworks. Some complaints of button bloat and we are severely lacking in group utility compared to other classes.
MW offers two different healing builds that are both viable in dungeons and raids. I recently solo healed phase one of heroic Sark (which is the most heal intensive of the entire fight) and it felt great. No one died until a mishap in phase two with mechanics. So we have great throughput. But we are not meta and we are frowned upon by popular “streamers” so it can be harder to get into pug groups for m+/raids.
In the end, for your intended style of play, monk can do it all. So if you like it and you’re having fun roll with it.
Don’t let this guy jade you. We’re doing just fine at the middle of the pack. There’s a degree to which windwalker perceive themselves as weak and then say that all of the monk specs are as they perceive.
Don’t get me wrong. There’s room for improvement, but it’s still a very fun, very functional class.
WW monks skill tree is garbage. A lot of shuffled shadowlands talents and multi touch of death is cancer in m+. Its padding into adds when everything is nearly dead and also you are in constant fear of missing out the second touch of death.
Yeah middle of the pack end of season because they handed out the bargain sale % buff like every patch since shadowlands started.
As for heal I would also skip that as you have to play the mana minigame next season. Getting worse so to say as every other heal need less skill.
Tank has massive button bloat but ok if you play till 24-25 keys
and yes I remember that time when monk was bugged in shadowlands or the beginning of mythic plus.

Monk was meta for M+ when it first came out because they were nimble. M+ was overtuned and one shotting tanks, so with the stagger mechanic for tanks, they can survive the one shot while running around like a chicken with their head cut off while the dps beat down the trash mobs/boss
The reality is monk needs a rework, but it’s current state is playable to the average users end goals and does so with relative ease and (for most) enjoyment.
