First a side issue. Blizzard please start treating Classic WoW seriously. When I select World of Warcraft it already defaults to “retail” instead of “classic.” I haven’t launched retail in over 5 months I’m not about to start now.
Onto the main issue. When I select classic instead of being presented with news about BWL, other announcements or actual information I could care about I instead get useless trash about horde furry allied races, hotfixes, get a death knight early access (weee), and 30% off character services. NONE of these apply to World of Warcraft Classic. Treat this game seriously already this is stupid.
You offer nothing to the discussion. Unfortunately for us OG Classic Players we have to see the launcher news since starting World of Warcraft using the Bnet icon fast launch defaults to Barf for Azeroth. Troll away though doesn’t change the fact that the news is useless for Classic players. You know, the actual issue in this thread.
Side issue: must be something about your launcher, 'cause mine defaults to classic every time. Even if I hit retail for something and then close it out, it re-opens on classic.
Main issue: …They do put classic news up, when there is news. It’s another month before BWL opens. A new patch just dropped on retail- and retail is the one that’s going forward, like it or not- so you have to expect that it’s retail-centric. What do you want 'em to do, put up a big empty box saying ‘Nothing planned for this month, but just wait till next month!’
Then where’s the announcement about an AV honorless change? That could be news. Where is the 1 month long promo for BWL with the release date clearly stated? Is 30% off select character services really more important than a once in a server lifetime launch of the BWL patch? No it isn’t. For the news feed it is clear that Blizzard considers it retail first, and not retail+classic news.
When I open the launcher it defaults to Classic. I am referring to if you right-click the battle net icon on your taskbar and select World of Warcraft it goes to retail not the one you have preset aka classic.
There is plenty of news about classic that they could post. Instead they decide to utilize the forums more than anything. You know how retail gets some dev interviews about the upcoming issues etc? Where is that for Classic WoW? It’s clear to me when 100% of the news on the launcher is related to retail that they don’t care for Classic.
When Dire Maul was released it was posted under retail as well. When BWL is launched I expect it to be shown under retail. It is WoW news, there is no conspiracy. There is nothing to report on for Classic atm and a large patch was just launched for retail.
The launcher will default to whatever you clicked to open the Battlenet app. If you want it to default to Classic then launch it with the WoW Classic icon, derp.
Whenever I launch Bnet it defaults to the last game I played, which is classic. So you are either playing retail, or its a bug. Cuz i just log in and hit play.
Mine used to default to Classic but lately I’ve had a few times where Retail will pop up front and I won’t notice until I’ve clicked launch and get the Retail client.
You want that to go in one of the promo boxes on the launcher?
They’ll put one up a week or two before that phase opens up.
I hate to sound overly cynical here, but it is the reality that a very large portion of the income Blizzard makes from WoW these days comes from microtransactions and “add-on” services. So yes, as annoying as it might be to some of us, Blizzard needs to get the word out to all their customers about their various sales and specials. A lot of people really do play both games.
