Seems like more and more mission are making my character less and less consiquential

I have done several bits of content recently, like the reclaiming of Gilneas, the reforging of Tyr, as well as the whole long chain of quests with Wrathion and Sebellion. There are literally dozens in the new stuff. (By “new stuff” Dragon Flight, although, the latest patch seems to have added more of it at a higher level)

The one thing all of these had in common was my character was saddled with one or more, sometimes half a dozen more, NPCs who either tanked for me or added DPS. I assume the intent is to make me feel like I am really doing something awesome. Achieving a great thing.

But all it does for me is make my character feel almost irrelevant. In the case of the Gilneas thing I had a button on my screen to order the assassin character to do about as much damage in one attack as it would take me, and another NPC, a minute or so to do. I found that if I just waited for that button to recharge I pretty much never even had to throw a punch.

And I was tricked out with the “catch up gear” from the dream surge, iLvl 470+. Nothing raid-tastic for sure, but regular mobs just evaporate since I got it. It made me wonder, what am I even doing in this scenario?

Don’t get me wrong. I like a challenge. The regular content has become trivial now, with the dream surge gear. I would love to have mobs that challenge my character. It is just that I do mostly solo stuff precisely BECAUSE it makes me feel like my character is the one doing it. Not just adding a trickle of damage in a fight between a couple NPCs.
