It’s not just Alleria… but also tyrande, maiev, etc.
They always go on the hunt, with this certainty that their chosen “prey” will lose to them… Illidan always have been more powerfull than Maiev, but Maiev always hunted him like she was sure she would win, its the same thing with Tyrande hunting down Sylvanas, and now its the same thing again with Alleria hunting Xala’thath.
I hate to break it to you Alleria, but you don’t stand a chance agaisnt Xal’athath in a fight.

yeah tyrande is the epitome of hell has no fury…
Its not so much that hunters are overconfident, its that they keep giving characters self destructive revenge stories and for hunter-esq characters, lean into the tracking motif for it.
Tyrande was already the chosen champion of a moon goddess and then got superpowered on mega moon juice, her confidence was justified til they rug pulled with the “you must choose renewal and peace” thing.
Maiev had a whole team chasing him to start; that team then got murdered and it became more endless thirst for revenge mixed with corruption from the shadow orbs then straight over confidence. Shes also not a hunter by wow standards shes a rogue, formerly a priestess like Tyrande.
Alleria id say is the only overconfident one but with 10000 years of training with the army of the light, void hunting powers making her a little crazy, and actual known god killers (us) backing her up i think that makes sense when dalaran was blown up only like 2 months ago ingame.

So the entire post legion story has been Hunter’s revenge due to the botched Hunter class hall and disgusting transmog sets

Maiev is a Warden. Illidan was her prisoner who escaped. It’s her duty to the NightElves to kick illidan’s azz.
And she had a whole team of watchers with her at the start before Tryrande killed the ones guarding his prison and the temple of elune/tomb of sargeras crushed her remaining forces.
Her job was to catch him, it became her personal obsession after so many of her friends and her kinda sorta girlfriend died in pursuit, and she started drinking the shadow orb juice. Leading to the extra crazy kill all the highborne version we got after tbc.
By legion shes much more chill on the hunting him thing; her brother is not dead/doesnt hate her and shes no longer on the orb, and their interactions are more like long time married but seperated couple. Threat flirting.

Honestly these hunter NPCs need to get their act together and start taming beasts.
Yeah Alleria is cool, but I’d like her chances of killing Xal’atath a whole lot more if she had a void-eating Dragonhawk or something backing her up instead of just going solo.
She doesn’t even have a spotting eagle. Weak.
It was neat, but it was no Dalaran Sewer.
