Second thoughts about the M+ leaver system. Horrible mythic+ experiences

I’ve mostly been in favor of the leaver penalty system because sometimes people leave keys with complete wanton disregard for the key holder or group and it basically ends the run for everyone else. It no doubt can toxic. That is until recently after something nasty happened.

On my tank I recently a really nasty experience with someone that just kept berating me throughout a M+ run. They were getting upset at me for not taking the routes they wanted and kept trying to order me around and the entire was just causing me anxiety which lead to worse performance. Situation like this are not good for mental health. And since this was a M+ run where communicating with other is important, putting them on ignore mid game isn’t an option unless the plan is to quit. Which is exactly what I did.

And then it occurred to me. Being able to just leave a group at any time is a good deterrent against toxic behavior in M+. If someone knows that if they start to get too rude to you, you will just leave and the run will be over they will be less likely to do it.

But what I want to know is what exactly is a good middle ground here? What kind of system can we have that strikes a good balance between deterring leavers and not trapping people in toxic groups?

Why isn’t putting them on ignore an option? You’re the tank you go where you want.

Just type /ignore and then their name, if you’re serious. But I think it’s more likely you’re concern-trolling.

Eh. Maybe I was overthinking it. I suppose your right.

Why on earth would this be considered concern trolling? No that absolutely isn’t that intention here. I don’t understand how you even to came to that conclusion. Pretty much I just thinking about this after it happened and it made wonder about some things.

Its a new season. No system stops people from being people. I had a 11 key that would of timed but the healer stopped before the last boss and afked for 5mins to punish me for low dps.

Weirdly enough raged at me for kicking them. Said I wasted their time… rest of the group just timed the 10 after.

I guess is the kind of stuff to be expected in pugs.

Stop trying to fix something that isn’t broke.

The only people that have leaver issues are people expecting to be carried or have no idea what they are doing.

The current system now is just fine.

Helpful advice: as soon as someone starts griefing or flaming in chat immediately put them on ignore. All their chats will do is cause you to tilt and make your gameplay worse, and there is nothing helpful that they are going to put into chat that is worth seeing.

98% of useful communication in a M+ is done before the key is dropped or by pings. If people are taking time out of doing their rotations to type things, they’re actively hampering their own output unless it’s during an RP section.

Ill keep that in mind. Mind this person was spending time to type in the chat bar during combat and at the end of the run he used /spit on me. Probably should have just ignored or left the moment that happened.

Its natural to wonder sometimes if the system could be better. We’ve seen many changes over the years that have helped change up pugging. For better or for worse.

Exactly.

Thank god they didn’t introduce the new Leaver system. It probably wouldn’t change anything.

I play WOW m+ because I can leave at any time.

I would enjoy League if I can do the same, but Riot penalizes people and makes it less fun.

When I play WOW, I never feel like I’m being held hostage.

When I play League, I do from time to time. Real play is replacing everyone on your team and playing teamfight tactics.

Wish they had, so I can group with my fellow certified leavers.

Bingo. Which is why anyone who’s aware of the current system knows that leavers only happen often to players if they’re either toxic ratbags or they’re clueless about the content and people don’t want to waste their time not timing a key when they’re pushing score.
Sadly a lot of these moments happen in the toxic casual area of keys (2-9). They start to stop almost entirely at 10+ for now since it’s the first week but come turbo boost that will end up being the new norm since those players would’ve caught up to being carried by their weekly gear by then.

Oh no, I wish someone would have considered the consequences of a leaver mark and voiced their concerns about toxic/trolling behavior now that a system that takes you hostage until the dungeon is finished takes place.

If only someone had spoke up and warned the people about this exact thing being more likely to happen with the new system.

Rolls eyes

You made your bed, now enjoy its discomfort. (Or not, since the system isn’t in effect yet)

I just disband my groups when they fail ive not seen the leaver thing yet.

Yes. I’ve done around 20 dungeon runs this season and the only time i felt the need to leave was if there was no hope on the key, someone already left or someone was being rude to me.

Its not too late to continue expressing concerned about it. At least the leaver mark only happens if you leave groups often. I’ve done a fair number of dungeons so far in Season 3 and hadn’t felt the need to leave until that situation I describe or the key was already an established flop with someone having left.

Guild groups. Honestly, even if you go in with one or two associates that have your back, it makes a big difference against trolls. Worst case scenario, the troll actively sabotages the group and is guaranteed at least two reports, but more likely 4 reports.

Yes, because as mentioned: the system isn’t in effect yet.

Might never be then. It barely functions in mobas already

All I know is that is someone is being really rude to me I’d love to be able to leave that group. Not good for mental health to have to deal with toxic behavior.

Just ignore the guy. I mean mentally ignore him, you’re not forced to process the information he’s sending you. It’s just like ignoring a hobo begging for drug money on the street, look ahead and pretend he doesn’t exist. Same with this guy in your gruop, look ahead and do your thing, what is he gonna do? Pull and die? Worse case he’s the leaver who takes the penalty, you have no reason to leave, just like you have no reason to let his actions emotionally affect you. You’re not sitting a your computer with a gun to your head forcing you to react to everything people say in a group, as the tank you’re the driver and the only thing you have to look at is the gas tank which is your healer’s mana. As long as this is good, you rock on ahead and the rest have to follow or they are failures, there is nothing else to it. They picked the brainless role, you can pretend like they are actual NPCs in a follower dungeon.
