Over the course of my time running dungeons, I’ve noticed that some players have what looks like a second name right next to theirs, it’s probably not one, but hopefully some of you might be able to explain this.
Here’s an example, keep in mind this user is fake: “johndoeser-dalaran”
These second names I see are usually named after areas in the game or notable characters, so now I’m curious to how these guys get these things.
That second name as you refer to it, is the name of the realm they are on. It appears on everyone who isn’t on the same realm as you.
That’s the name of their server.

Interesting, I never thought people could join your dungeon group from other realms? The more you know.
Long time ago that was the case. At this point tho cross server is a thing for everything except mythic until the hall of fame is filled up on both factions.

Those are realm names. If you and I wound up in a dungeon together, it would say Shadina-Gorefiend because I am on the realm Gorefiend. It’s just a means of identifying what realm people are from in case you wanted to look them up or something.
