Second account for dungeon boosting your own toon?

considering making a rogue alt. I am fascinated with the idea of creating a second account so I can power carry him through dungeons with my mage for a few reasons 1) sounds fun 2) easy gold making from bringing along a few extra folks

My question is how is the leveling when doing this? Faster or slower than traditional leveling?

Worth the extra sub?

Depends on how fast you can get through dungeons as opposed to just questing solo.

Just some more info on this too, it’s best to stick to dungeons that are around the level of the character you are boosting so you shouldn’t just jump into say SM Cath.

It also helps to have a full group of players while doing this and those other characters should also be within 1-2 levels of the character you are boosting.

It’s faster for sure. Worth an additional subscription? That’s up to you…IMO it isn’t.

Also note, Blizzard has not allowed for character transfers from account-to-account in Classic…so you will have to pay for that additional subscription indefinitely until that changes.

To me, $15 is worth it. I think it would be hella fun to aoe the whole dungeon. If its good xp with a full group, I will prob go this direction just out of sheer curiosity

That’s probably the fastest option due to the fact that we’ll probably never have dungeon finder and half the servers don’t have a steady stream of lowbies to fill dungeon groups. The alternative is to grind grind grind like that southpark episode. #livingthedream lol.

I did this once before… But I used the “Recruit a friend” for the bonus xp to make it much less painful.

To be honest, it’ll take quite a bit of time. By the time you get past level 40, most classes won’t be able to easily farm solo. Maneuvering your alt will be an issue, as you won’t be able to simply “follow.” Dealing with alt-deaths is an annoyance. Rolling a mage will allow you to clear more things faster, but unless you level engineering, you probably won’t be able to rez your alt. A paladin can roll prot and handle up to SM well enough, but your clears won’t be fast, and that’s an Alliance-only thing.

In the end, I think you’ll be better off just leveling and trying to enjoy the experience.

I have been doing this all weekend on my mage, carrying my druid. This is on Herod.

It’s gone really well. Additionally, I bring guildies alts to lower the impact the 60 has. Somethings to note:

  1. The XP is better in a full group of people your level or slightly lower.

  2. THe XP is best when you’re supposed to be in that content. For example: 100xp/mob in SFK at level 20 vs. 56xp/mob at level 15.

  3. You can make decent gold if you’re selling the other 3 slots.

  4. I have made sure to bring a healer, even a low level one. The shields/heals they pop makes me able to be a little less surgical/make bigger pulls. I don’t charge the healer since they’re helping with the service.

  5. It’s taking me about an hour per level at levels 35-40, so far. It was about 1/2 hour per level prior to this. So yes, much faster.

  6. The raw gold loot from the Arm/Cath split among five players is about 15g/hr. So for you since you’d have two charactes (the mage/alt) it would be about 30g in just raw gold loots. I’ve reserved all the cloth/greens to level tailor/enchanting I’m at 225/both for 0 gold invested.

  7. Practice first, then sell, people get mad if you’re wiping. Also, some of the more difficult youtube pulls I’ve skipped and broken them up. No sense in trying to do insanity if you can only pull it off 2/3 times. I go for really good, and efficient instead of epic.

  8. I find the $15/mo well worth it. I have mount money for my alt (so does my buddy on his priest) just from raw gold loots.

I actually have 3 accounts with 3 different 60’s on it. This shaman, a 60 war and a 60 mage. I knew the warrior grind was brutal so I used a program called isboxer, which is legal btw, and duo boxed the warrior and shaman on the same computer all the way to 60.

IMO, having separate accounts is a huge blessing, as you can mule stuff to bank alts without 1 hour mail delay, and you can help each of your chars out with buffs/portals/etc.

The only downside is the cost of the monthly subs, but buy gamecards online and use them instead as you can get them cheaper than paying blizzard directly.

The exp penalty is absolutely horrible unless you bring extra low levels.

I have a 60 mage and 60 rogue on 2 different accounts and love it.
I used my mage to level my rogue super fast. I can also easily port and trade with bank alts on each account.

I’m leveling alts on both accounts. Using the mage to power level is obviously faster and you can sell SM runs when you get to that level. I also run people through on my rogue for free since it’s slower.

I wish I did 2 accounts in vanilla. An extra $15 a month is nothing. Have 3 less beers a month and call it even.

I actually purpose-built a pally for my guild to boost lowbie alts up to zf, where our master mage farmer takes them to about 52. Using that pally (after some gearing) I was able to get my druid on a second account from 10-30 in deadmines, stocks and SM gy in a weekend. So its definitely faster leveling. The bonus is my guild now loves me even more for the free boosts I do.

I had a second account in WOTLK which really only helped me watch the auction house and relist items none stop. This is the most efficient use of a second account. There is very little content that requires a pocket healer or whatever to follow you around, and it ends up being more of a pain than it’s worth. Then there is the problem of having to pay to transfer the characters you want to keep when you no longer need a second account.

totally worth it for a level 1 bank alt to monitor the AH 24/7, and creating solo groups to farm and reset instances.

I, too, use Isboxer to power-level my frost mage (currently at 35) with my shadow priest (currently at 46). My goal is to power the mage to the same level as my priest and then dual-box to 60.

My thoughts so far:

  1. Using a priest lets me rez the mage when she croaks. This doesn’t happen often, but when it does it saves a huge amount of time (not having to make a GY run).
  2. Leveling seems slower. It’s gotten a bit faster as the mage gets closer to the priest’s level.
  3. One huge benefit is the ability to do group quests. Yesterday, I boosted the mage (at level 34) through the Crushridge Warmongers elite quest along with the Perenolde Pendant) and the “Salt-Encrusted Tailfin” quest.
  4. When the mage hits 40, things will speed up since she can portal the priest.

I’ve missed out on dungeons, but I’m having a lot of fun.

I

It’s exponentially faster. This guy im posting on has a /played of like 7 hours. Just make sure to fill the extra 3 slots in the party to maximize exp.

Did you even read his post? Its literally a fact that mage boosting a character through SFK/SM/ZF/Gorshak is the fastest way to level a character. There are characters leveled like this with less than 2 days /played. So no being an ah bot isnt the most efficient way to use a second account.

I currently run 2 accounts for this very reason. I haven’t timed my leveling speeds or anything like that, but what I do know is it’s nice to have my alts building up rested XP and then being bale to blast them up a couple levels every week with relatively little time investment. Also my main is a warrior so having healing alts is really helpful, the plan being to eventually duo myself through things that I can’t solo. It takes some getting used to though.

Plus, having a bank alt on each account is super convenient for transferring stuff around quickly without using snail mail.

Whatever floats your boat & makes the game fun for you I guess.

Is it less than 2 days played? Gorshek takes about 2 hours a level from 50-60 and that alone is 20 hours.

I’m getting about a level an hour from 30-40, that puts me at 30. This is under absolutely perfect circumstances. I think the power leveling method is likely 48 hours total /played if done really well.

I did this with my 60 warrior to level my priest who is now level 47.

It is fast and easy. The priest would heal my warrior so I could make huge pulls and never worry about dying.
I also sold runs for cheap to fill the other 3 spots (you get better exp with a full grp) in stockades, SM, ZF and now Mara. Hopfully the BRD too.
I made a ton of gold for my warrior and leveled the priest quickly.

This. The amount of XP you get increases as the average level of the group members decreases. One lvl 60 and 4 level tens produces more XP per hour than one lvl 60 taking one level 10 through RFC.
