"Season of Discovery?" more like Season of "Level just a little faster"

So, after a few weeks, all runes are found and nothing about the game is different. All we have are abilities that are overpowered and kill must faster or heal much more than normal…

Areas are the same.
Quests are the same.
Dungeon bosses are the same.
Mob damage is the same.
Loot is the same.
Hunter pets are all the same.
Talent trees are the same.
Casters still rely on wands to do damage over mana spending moves.
Locks are still untouchable.

its 95% the same game outside of more damage output. Doesn’t really seem like we “Discovered” much. Its just a retail type of adjustment.

But, what SHOULD we discover? idk…

  1. Runes should not be Static. They need to be randomized throughout the world.
  2. More random caves
  3. Randomized chests that actually have loot/consumables.
  4. More rare mobs
  5. Timed/Randomized quests for cool buffs unique for only that player or group that completes together.
  6. Random goblins that’s guarding a gold treasure chest
  7. Mount buffs that can you use for 1hr or 2hrs
  8. New FULL sets from professions to create.
  9. More pets that follow you.
  10. MORE RUNES OVERALL AND USABALE ON ALL PIECES OF GEAR.
  11. New achievements to hunt down for rewards.
Example - Capture all 25 red chickens that spawn across the world randomly and get this cool chicken mount you can ride 1hr at a time with a 4hr cooldown.

Damn Blizzard, put a prompt in chat GPT and it can spit out Hundreds of ideas in 10minutes…

To be honest, when I first started season of Discovery I thought it was going to be more like a slightly altered classic era world, with hidden dungeons and NPCs and quests that you can’t just find with addons. That the world, even briefly, would recapture a mystery long since lost since the age of the internet overtook MMO gaming. A world you would want to explore to find a hidden nook or cranny where something amazing would happen or be revealed. Where new skills, items, dungeons, or even a crazy world boss could be just around the corner of a zone hardly anyone ever touched before.

Instead, it has become classic with retail skills via runes (from various eras) mixed in and instead of new dungeons, just raids that REPLACE the current dungeon they represent.

It doesn’t feel very discovery. It feels more like rediscovery. Rediscovering why I disliked retail and chose to stay in classic era. I could only wish that they would do more, but they chose this path instead.

Couldnt agree more.
‘Dev team’ and i use the term very lightly, did very little to add to the world. Everything went into bringing retail abilities into classic with little to nothing done to change the world. The only discovering to be had is Runes and learning new fights in the raid which are bare bones at best.

Where’s the new enemies? Locations?

Hell, they didnt even bother addressing botting, gold buying and gdkps and to think they’d actually put effort in SoD -_-

I find the discovery part mostly relates to the Runes, clearly. I wasn’t going into SoD expecting Classic+. I do think BFD and Ashenvale are nice little change of pace being capped at 25.

I’m not quite sure what people expected out of this. To me, when I see posts like this, it’s from people who had a Christmas list and, rather than getting every item on the list, they felt what was given to them were all lumps of coal.

This is exactly what they expected. They for some reason thought a seasonal classic server was an entirely new game and are now mad it’s still classic (with some changes).

People need to realize this is what we are playing and not “Classic +”

Classic+ isn’t a thing, it’s just some vague idea that a hundred different people have a hundred different expectations of and when Blizzard doesn’t make the game they never said they would, these people get upset at Blizzard for not delivering.

So… basically you want a new game, not a modifier to the existing game.

YES! more random runes with different abilities that anyone can use and not be class or character specific.

Here’s a vanilla ice cream. We added sprinkles this time.

Also it only comes in a small, gotta wait for the medium and large to come out later.

Boy there is no pleasing some people. Personally, I think it’s very commendable that Blizzard has done something so creative to breathe life into a 20 year old game.

It’s a clever way to revitalize. I hope they stay with this concept.

Since they are hybridizing the game, it would be interesting to see the zones with additional content; perhaps some new dungeons.

There’s nothing hybridizing about a hybrid warrior that can’t use 3 out of 4 runes he acquires… Blizzard wants and is forcing you to play their type of warrior and not be allowed to deviate from that path with your own creation. Again, My hybrid warrior did not benefit from 3 out of 4 runes… so the effort it took getting these runes is not worth the reward and this has been a big issues with wow developers.

I know it’s frustrating to get Devastate and not have Defensive stance till 20.

OTOH, you can get so many runes straightaway, you can equip all three slots and have higher level replacements ready to swap.

A warrior in SOD is much heartier, has more power and has more “whack” than vanilla classic. Rage gen is still a bit of a problem but you can get a chest rune early on that helps.

Overall, it’s more fun than a pure classic warrior.

Could the envelope been pushed more? Maybe, but there were probably constraints for schedule and they can only do so much. What’s interesting to me are the metas that have developed around the gameplay with these phased level caps.

I think it’s cool and fun. I’ve interacted more with the world around that level that I would have normally breezed by on my way to 60.

Don’t like game, don’t play game. Simple.

Want the game/world to go faster, then read what I said here:

What annoys me, is that combat rogues are much more fun in vanilla.

I always hated the “outlaw” rogue and am sad to see runes to add it here, instead of a blade flurry rune.

But again, I give them credit for trying.

I would dearly love that. Potions, particularly low level ones, suck. They are next to useless and the 2 minute cd is just ponderous.

I think along with these yummy new abilities, consideration should be given to increasing the mana pool. I mean a couple of fireballs, a frostbolt and noob lance, and I’m tapped already.

lets look at this more in depth.

Lets say that you’re in a group and as a healer, you need the mana while others would need rage or health. When they kill something, the bubble is totally random, so a warrior killed soemthing, but it gave him a mana bubble. he would not and could not take a mana bubble, so instead the healer can take that kills bubble again the bubble would be there for less than 10 secs. but would allow the flow of the game to continue.

Even wondering around in the world, if someone killed something, looted the coupes and ran away, which left a rage/heal/mana bubble and you can use, take it.

Are we mad about too much changes or about not enough changes? The meta of complaining is getting pretty fierce! Pretty hard to keep up.

“We” aren’t a monolith. TBH there are a lot of changes I’d make for MY ideal SoD, but none that I feel the need to post about or request. The changes we’ve gotten are enough toe energize a love for WoW I lost years ago. Normal Classic was nothing to me, and I haven’t played consistently since mid Legion. SoD I’ve been playing like I’m in college again and not pushing 40.
