Season of discovery is a very divided iteration of wow players

Like the title says, SoD seems to be one of the most divided wow concepts around. Its trying to bring a balance betweem classic and retail, and by doing so is dividing its player base overall.

We have the GDKP haters and supporters faction.

The classic leveling versus increased xp faction

The “these new abilities are ruing the game” vs “these new abilities bring a fresh vibe to classic” factions

The dungeon boosting vs questing factions,

The gnomer is hard vs end phase is to easy,

These are just a few. Which one do you belong to? I for one am rather enjoying SoD with a few minor issues, but nothing game breaking or ruining. Ive met some cool peeps and find the content to be a fresh fave to an outdated game system.

I can simpify it for you.

GDKPers vs. Non GDKPers

and

Retail enjoyers vs. classic players.

Well… Classic Andies need to stop complaining about SOD because it is not Era… go play on Era servers for that experience.

SOD is supposed to be a wild experiment of insanity…

Whiners vs non-whiners. Totally see it too.

It’s a bit of both.

Classic players need to stop getting in the way of progress and change.

Retail players need to stop pushing for things that already exist in retail, and instead opt to have creative mechanics and abilities that do not already exist in retail.

I just dislike how so many people pull the “retail” card everytime theres any meaningful change.

Believe me, even in its current state SoD is so far away from Retail that even Sargeras would have trouble trying to find it. Retail got its reputation due to the myriad of issues thanks to years of expansions and overbloated features, trimming and lack of rpg and social elements.

It has become very clear, especially with the latest dev update, that SoD is not the classic+ precursor people hoped it would be, and “retail -” is unironically a perfect way to describe what SoD is shaping up to be.

They are essentially stripping the game of all the actual “charm” of classic wow, making all the OG content and loot essentially irrelevant, replacing it with rushed retail-esque content without the actual polish of retail and creating a Frankenstein of a game that doesn’t really fully please either the classic crowd or the retail crowd

They are trying to make the game as close to retail as possible, but without any of the backend tech and features that support the retail game design.
They are simultaneously giving players tons of quality of life and catch-up mechanics (but not quite enough to please the retail playerbase) while removing the iconic friction points in the classic game such as mount costs and leveling time.
They have created a watered down classic wow, and a feature lacking retail wow hybrid that fails to deliver the experience that make either game enjoyable
I had a lot of optimism for SoD at the beginning, but as more updates have released and the devs have shared more of their vision of what they intend to do with SoD I have completely lost any enthusiasm for this version of the game, it falls short of giving the “classic” feel, while also falling short of providing a more modern and polished mmo feel like retail. Very disappointing

Eh, I’m not as much interested in the wild and bonkers aspect of SoD,

I’m just more interested in
“Specs are actually playable”
“New Content.” (Like the rune quests and raids, some of them are amazing.)

Having new content and being playable, dare I say “invite-able” or even “sought” as a DPS Shaman in a classic setting has ruined all other forms of the game for me.
It will be a long time, if ever, before I touch Era again.
Retail will probably never be “it” either with how far gone it is.

You can probably just simplify that more to

Yeah I don’t get ‘now it’s 20mans it’s retail!’ argument. Sure there are some things they are taking from future expansions but if you have played retail lately it’s a totally different game and feel.

idk what people are talking about when they say “ruining the game”. The game is in PHASE 2, we still have 20 levels to go… We haven’t seen what they plan on doing end game with the classic 40man raids, we have no info past phase 3, and we have very limited info of phase 3 thanks to data miners. I would ignore anyone crying about the game not being exactly as it was in 2005. The game is meant to be different in a meaningful way.

If they made a “permanent” server just with some of the aspects of SoD ported over, I would absolutely play it.

Dual Wield Shaman (Though they would need to restrict RB to one hand, it’s a bit wild in PvP, only just NOW being noticed because everyone thinks Hunter got nerfed into the ground)
Putting a cleaned up version of WotE into the enhance tree so we could actually tank.
Shammy Rage
Reduced Mana/CD Stormstrike? That’s honestly been the BIGGEST thing.

Just some of the things like that if ported to a “Classic+” server without all the wild and crazy “out there” stuff, I’d play the hell out of it.

I like the classic environment. The classic class balance is nonexistent.
(Druids probably feel the same way.)

I like Classic as much as the next guy, but it is not the perfect game.

There comes a moment in Vanilla WoW where you just run out of quests and need to grind out mobs or dungeons to continue. But people hold this up as a feature and make excuses as to why this is the way that it is. If any other game had that at launch, the hate on Twitter and Reddit would be neverending.

Classic is in dire need of some QoL changes, but things like RDF, and portals to every major city aren’t it. There’s a balance somewhere in between, but both sides or so unwilling to meet in the middle.

Bottom line is games need to stop trying to please everyone, or nobody is the target audience. That means interest will be lost fast because players can just find a game that fits what they want and not a little of what everyone wants.

How boring.

Also, the forum nerf wars.

Hunter vs Everyone Else

If you want classic, go play classic, if you want retail go play retail… its not that hard, SOD at this point is neither… so Have fun or go play your preferred version.

Agree with this

The players ruined SOD. I had fun for about a month. Then everyone started swiping for GDKP runs. Its the mid/max a phase in two days, so i can spend the rest of my time complaining that really gets me. I mean this in the best way possible. Play another game once in awhile. Touch grass. Anything but log on to complain about WOW. These forums have always been a cry baby fest, but its reached a new low lately.
