Season of Discovery Developer Update - Feb 27, 2024

/shrug I think the content itself should be epic not the arbitrary number of people you do it with.

I am glad to hear of raids becoming 20 man instead of 40.
40 man only serves to create lag, and makes raiding harder logistically speaking, especially in dead servers.

I’m just so sad about these changes.

Exactly right for my group as well. Moving to 20 man or above is a season killer for us. We have no desire to add PUGs.

The XP buffs sound nice, but for me it isnt the leveling time thats daunting
its refarming supply rep for each character (esp with the new changes)
or grinding the mats for the runes from the booty bay vender

To me these grinds are much more daunting that gaining the xp.

You’ve said you were quitting already. Go.

This is the wrong approach. Molten Core and iconic 40 man raids should stay as they are. It’s how it has always been in Vanilla and I always look forward to large raids (40m MC, BWL, etc.) when I get to endgame.

Why are you ruining this game Blizzard?

I like the changes and love SOD, 20 mans and 40 bring them all! But the real question I have is am I going to get reimbursed for the mount I’ve already bought?

you mean 2 years ago? where people did 40 man content? this content

are you saying March 5th is already the middle of phase 2?..

No thanks. Let’s keep it at 10. The audience doesn’t exist anymore for 40 man raids. You can do that in classic right now if you want.

I really hope there will not be 40mans
the people who actually know how to play their class do not want to carry 10-15 grays

they do exist, if you want 10 and 20 man retail is also there for you to play

A few potential issues I see down the line for players in SoD

  1. Molten Core - I hope you have plans to address the issue of bosses being immune to fire damage. I get elemental resistances are a big core part of classic wow but Warlock Tanks are going to have no chances of getting into groups unless they respec to shadow DPS. Maybe you give them a rune that lets their fire spells be counted as Shadowflame aka both shadow and fire damage.

  2. Tier Sets - I hope there are new tier sets for the classic raids in the works because the current tier sets pigeon hole players into certain specs and it would be fun to have tier sets based around the spec they want to play. Also some tier sets actively make a class worse for example - Tier 2 and Tier 3 for Warlocks have threat reduction baked in, which is nice for dps locks, but detrimental to Tank locks.

  3. Raid size and pairing it down - Blackwing Lair only needs 2 bosses to be adjusted in terms of mechanics. Razorgore and Nefarian - The rest of the fights are just reducing boss hp and damage. Razorgore just needs the # of adds that spawn while killing eggs reduced. And Nefarian adds need #s tuning. AQ40 is also a raid easily just fixed with a simple damage and HP tuning, Naxx is easily fixed by looking at WOTLK since it was designed for both 10 and 25 and adjusting the numbers there. I can see all the raids being down to 20 mans which I feel is a good size for SoD. Another suggestion is to tune Tier 2 to be at 30 players (BWL and AQ40) and have Naxx be the ultimate test with 40 players.

Here’s what I would personally like to see for raiding at max level (ideal world ignoring constraints you face as devs):

  • 40 man raids exist, but they are casual and very easy to pug. You want 40 people to get through it in a reasonable time frame, but mechanics lean towards simple where individuals messing up punish the individuals. You can’t have a small amount of people wiping a raid. These raids are primarily pugged with a group leading it.

  • 20 man raids are the more hardcore form of content. You want to find ideal raid comps and groups to conquer them. They require true progression to work through them and people coordinating to over come difficult challenges. These require a guild setup to bring a group together and coordinate together.

  • 10 man raids that are difficult dungeon content, something akin to current gnomer (themaplugg+ being appropriate end boss content, but would like to see some of the earlier bosses harder then they currently are). Something that is difficult, but still reasonable to pug and overcome. Something you can accomplish with some friends mixing pugs & people you know.

I can’t speak to how I’d want these to interplay with each other and what gearing up means between them without digging deeper into details, but at a high level this is what I want.

I think the reduce gold to mount cost etc is a good idea but the 100% to exp this early will cause players to lose focus on a “main” and cause guilds to steadily have to gear the alts because they dont want to stick to one charater I use to be that person not going to lie but I do rather the 10 mans to make raiding feel better i dont want to spend hours trying to fill a raid or looking to carry someone new every raid I continue to look forward on seeing how the game plays out I have been enjoying it and the world seem to be alive again i really wish to see the raids that was planned but never got released like in the bottom of tarnis for exmaple where the elite elementals are standing or to release the karazan my fav raid of all time I do wish yall the best and I know you cant please everyone i am a vet wow player and i continue to play i dont look for that to change as long as classic is around I dont care what streamer reads this or not this is my belief the streamers changed the game in a since but not all of it for the worst they allowed me the joys of killing their followers and to that i thank them

And era exists for people who want 40 mans /shrug

This entire blue post for March 5th is absolutely amazing and im so proud of whoever initiated these changes. However, going back and fourth on your own word twice now about the mount reversion is very poor to say the least. It should’ve never been put back to full price in the first place

Next up, you need to change how you can BFD trinket swap. 75g for a trinket swap is straight up no way else to put it other than Blizz catering to Gold buyers/RMTers. The price should be no more than 10-20g. + The quest item (Perfect Blackfathom Pearl) should be repeatable and offered in exchange “give another pearl for a swap”. This helps players who are new or lvling alts to experience the BFD world buff consistently. Not to mention, on PVP servers you have lvl 40s running around low lvl zones constantly killing low-lvl grey’d players worth no honor for fun making them also lose their BFD world buff. This world buff only works for lvling players, therefore, it should persist through death. This is seasonal, not ERA.

This is probably going to squash my guild. Despite being a raid lead and GM of our team, I don’t consider myself as either. I can lead my friends through a dungeon or 10 man but I don’t have the capability to recruit and manage ten more. I know I’m not alone. 10 mans put up a lot of hype for casual players, most of my group had no intentions of playing at first. I was planning on joining a guild at the start of p1 but there were enough of my casual friends who showed up that I hit the invite button. There are 11 of us, two are already talking about leaving wow before p3 and I expect at least five to fall off once the guild doesn’t progress on to 20s.

Like I said, knew it was coming at some point whether 20, 25 or 40 but it still sucks that it’s here, we really had fun so far.
