the refusal to make rogue or mage difficult classes to play is astounding
It 100% lowers the skill cap, but many of us, who started playing the game in 2004, do not have room to change keybindings or playstyles to cancel aoe cleaving, like we can, but its not going to be comfortable for a few months. Something I refuse to do, because every time I have tried to change any more than 1 keybind in the past, I last maybe 1 month before reverting back to my old keybindings. Really, I can only adjust 1 keybind a week. So the fact that my class has 9+ more keybinds just to play different versions of my spec really stinks.
The only way I made this work is if I played beta for 8 weeks and adjusted my keybinds. I also do not like even hitting the queue button until my bars/binds and playstyle are setup properly, so there is no option to just change 1 keybind a week here, lol. Some of the keybinds/playstyles require 3 new binds alone, like frostfire with cancel excess’s and empowerment.
It’s great for people who are newer to the game and came to the game at a time when they knew it would be important to make mouse button modifiers instead of actual buttons. Like Pika, Aeghis, etc., but for us veterans that have been playing since classic, its been completely uncomfortable to play and try to adapt for.

We should be fixing other parts of the game, like button bloat, overlapping abilities that serve the same purpose, hybrid classes, multiple brackets, SS queue timers, dynamic cast timers, no official PvP UI, use of 100s of addons/trackers, and the list goes on and on and on. This is a hack of a fix they are doing to target veteran players who do not have keybinds available to /cancelaura their cleaving or newer players who simply lack that skill and intuition to /cancelaura or not cleave in the first place.
Besides some specs, just naturally cleave, and you can’t cancelaura anyways, like you can with frostmage. So that needs to be fixed as well.
They want minimal investment and time spent to “fix” the game.
You could literally make a private server and balance PvP better than they are doing. This is a top-down issue, and likely not a lack of skill from the developers. If the people from the top of Activision Blizzard (CEOs, CTOs, CFOs, project managers, design leads, etc) ask for dog water or do not pay the developers enough, the developers are going to make dog water.

They should have made all of these cc break on 1 damage not give them a damage threshold. Everyone knowd sleet is a stun and people die in it. So stupid just like when they increased the fear break on damage threshold and warriors were using it as another stun (to this day I still eat 4s of fear with sac up)

You can send an entire rapidfire into a freezing trap sometimes on the ptr if you don’t crit. Gouge is basically another rotational stun for rogue.

Are queues popping on the ptr? I was wanting to test MM out (among other things), but waited in queues for like 1.5hr before just giving up. Was only able to find people for duels
I haven’t been able to get into skirms at all. Basically just able to test in duels.
New marks is definitely something with two doubletaps and huge aimed shots + precise shots black arrows. You’re sending tactical nukes while you’ve got charges and then basically doing nothing for a minute or so until the next trueshot comes back up.
The pet situation is also currently a hot mess. You’re currently able to double dip pet family passives by taking the tenacious talent and using a cunning pet. Pets are still doing their specials on targets meaning that by running pet you can passively keep ms on a pet target and something else while you have aimed shot charges. The marked target debuff is currently unreliable enough that you’re probably still going to want to play with the pet talent unless they go recode all of the pets to not give you passives + ms while you’re marks spec.
But basically all of the cc’s that used to break on the first damage tick are acting like fear except with a different threshold mechanic that cares more about how big individual damage ticks are instead of a cumulative amount of damage happening over a time window. Gouge from sin rogue will probably be the easiest to abuse because it doesn’t remove bleeds and poisons, and their damage profile perfectly fits with the mechanic to not break gouge.

That was the vibe I got as well, it was hard to tell just from duels because I was basically just 100-0’ing people before they could touch me, but it was hard to tell because they def weren’t playing properly. Wanted to test it out in arena skirms, but I guess no one is queuing them (or they just don’t work on ptr? Idk, I felt like there should have at least been 3 other people trying lol)
I agree about the pet changes, basically just waiting for the dust to settle, but if damage is comparable I would MUCH rather play with one. I think they’re making it an option now?
Not being de facto forced into taking diamond ice will be nice, and maybe open up some super cheesy counter shot->chimera sting->stun->trap combos on kill targets where you just kill them through without the trap breaking (could see healer swaps being potentially gigaeffective for this reason if damage break thresholds don’t change)
The rework originally intended to completely do away with marks pets, so it featured various passives/talents added into the spec intended to replace the utility that the other hunter specs get from pets.
The rp crowd complained a lot, and they added a talent node against improved spotters mark that lets you summon regular hunter pet again. Imp spotters mark makes the eagle debuff give +40% damage to your next aimed shot instead of +20%. Basically the only one you can count on is the guaranteed one that you get when you press trueshot. Using pet sac also prevents the eagle from marking the target whether you are using another pet or not.
So in one way, using the pet is actually a worse conundrum than before the patch because instead of 5% flat damage loss for pet, you’re sacrificing 20% on your burst, but also getting twice as much of the utility benefit. It doesn’t really make sense to me tbh.
