Searing Light Issue/Bug?

So I’m playing around with different builds, and decided to try out a Radiant damage burn build with Searing Light.

I stood at the PvP target dummy for about 5 minutes spamming Blade of Justice for the Expurgation DoT and Consecration (Both deal radiant damage with the Burning Crusade talent). Searing Light never proced. I moved over to the group of non-pvp dummies same thing. Also tried Divine Hammer. No proc.

Searing light seemed to only proc off of Wake and Divine Storm, and even then super rarely. My expectation would be that it would proc sometimes like Touch of Light from the class tree.

If it is only intended to proc off of DS and WoA, can the tool tip be updated to reflect that? It’s just not a very interesting ability as it stands right now, and honestly kinda confusing.

As a side note: please don’t take this as me complaining. Right now, ret has a couple of builds that do insane amounts of burst damage and I agree tuning is needed. I’m looking at the alternative builds for fun, and it just kinda seems like it doesn’t work?

Maybe someone could kindly explain Searing Light to me if I am mistaken.

Edit: Yeah, just confirming I got 1 proc in over 100 combined casts of WoA and DS, none from any of the other “abilities that deal Radiant damage.” I hope that’s broken, because as a capstone talent it’s competing with Divine Arbiter and the difference mathematically doesn’t even seem close.

Yeah, so I am having the same issue. Outside of WoA and DS searing light will not proc off of any other radiant damage…ESPECIALLY Consecrate ticks!!! I am assuming this is a bug, being it is a bottom tier ability that does mediocre damage at best…it should be procing every 10 seconds. Hopefully, this is just an oversight…although the sub-par damage after the re-work also needs to be adjusted up across most abilities…maybe excluding WoA which seems to be okay (not great but okay).

I haven’t tested the burn build myself, but i have been hearing reports that it will not proc on ticks (DoT or cons ticks that is, but on the cast of a radiant damage skill.

Have you guys tried with templar strike without the holystrike talent?

I was testing Searing Light today, and I had ONE proc out of 10 minutes of trying ever radiant damage ability. I think it must have a super rare proc and I 100% guarantee it is not counting things that are not WoA and DS.

Divine Hammer is also radiant damage, did not help procing that way.

::EDIT:: Got it to proc on the 5 training dummies, but it’s not doing all that great

::last edit I promise:: from what I gather, it has a lower proc rate so that it only really happens if you’re fighting a large crowd. But it’s doing less damage than one of my trinkets so idk how good it could be (on 5 targets that is)

I eventually figured out this will proc it too. Doesn’t really do much for the overall frequency of the proc, which still makes me wonder how this could ever be more viable than Divine Arbiter and the Wake of Ashes talents.

Thanks to all here for helping me confirm I’m not crazy!

Try your test again, but do it with Templar Strikes. With talents, it becomes Radiant damage. Just make sure you do NOT take the talent that converts abilities into Holystrike damage as that talent will overwrite the talent making Templar Strikes into Holystrike, regardless of if you took the Radiant talent or not.

I have been doing dungeons with searing light/radiant damage build. It seems to go off a decent amount of times there. Maybe because there are lots of targets getting hit with lots of radiant damage?

Yup, proc chance increase with more targets.

Have any of you tried to stack the other trinket gems with searing light? ive been using it with leech and i was hoping if i use it with martyr, victory fire, and vindication on my tank it would proc of those trinket abilities too. Has anyone tried or now if it works with them?

This post is from 2023 before Mop remix was even a thing. They are talking about Searing Light the ret talent, not the mop remix gem.

Well, we didn’t confirm that yet, but…
