Hey I was just curious if any one knew the differences between Seal of Command ranks. Is it better to simply use rank 1?
Judgement damage.
Zeliek, thanks just wanted to verify there wasn’t something else in the background like percentages or such.
Unless you are going to judge it, rank 1 would be the same damage output on a proc.
So if you want to save mana you can use rank 1 and switch to max rank before a judgement.
Everything is as you see it. No low level penalty as it is a level 20 spell minimum.
… how does this save mana? Lol it’s just spending extra mana.
When down ranking SoC you don’t max rank before judging, you just judge rank 1. It’s a 200 damage difference in judgement from rank 1 to max rank. And that’s over 8 seconds.
Better depends on the context. If it’s going to be a long fight, it can be worth it to downrank to stretch out your mana. Just something you gotta get a feel for.
While leveling, I think it’s best to use max rank most of the time, especially in conjunction with HoJ to get the extra burst damage in. Just keep lots of water to drink.
Max level, the only time I’ve had to downrank yet is on Nefarian and Razorgore. Nefarian’s first phase of add-killing will just eat your mana if using max rank SoC. I just downrank to rank 1, using max rank against the boss itself. On Razorgore, it depends on how fast things are dying and what part of the room you’re in. If you’re in a group that already has great burst DPS, there’s no reason to bother with a little extra judgment damage. If not, max rank is good for bursting down mages.
If chain-pulling trash in MC, I’ll often rank 1 to make up for lack of drinking time.
I keep mine on max rank. I almost always cast judgement when the CD is up. Boss fights are done so quickly that mana has only been an issue when I have to toss some heals or lots of cleanses during a fight (consecrate counts as a debuff, so I don’t even have it talented.)
That really depends on the play style. Some folks will run around and simply auto-attack most of the time, especially while grinding/farming. One might want to judge only if something is running away, or stunned.
ok so for all those who got angry when the dude said you can save mana by doing rank 1 seal of command, he is right, but its only applicable in situations where a fight would take advantage of it, which would only be fights lasting longer than 30 seconds
You downrank SoC because you’ll go oom if you judge on cooldown for longer fights. If you’re just auto attacking, and judging to end a fight there’s no need to downrank SoC. Either way, you should never be using rank 1 SoC, then swapping to max rank to judge.
Rank 1 SoC costs 35 mana and rank 5 costs 210 mana. They both have identical procs of 70% weapon damage so using 1 or 5 makes no difference. The only difference is the judgement. Rank 1 at L60 with a slow weapon of 3.5 and half way decent gear will judge for around 100 damage and rank 5 will judge for around 300 damage. Regardless of the level SoC you’re using your judgement will cost 6% of your base mana, which if you’re in full AP gear is around 77 mana.
Using rank 1 SoC and judging on cooldown will cost you 112 mana every 10 seconds (8 if talented into it) and using rank 5 SoC with judgement on cooldown will cost you 288 mana every 10/8 seconds. If you use rank 1 SoC to auto attack and then swap to max rank SoC to judge you’re spending 323 mana per cycle and getting zero benefit from using rank 1 SoC. If you want that extra 25 average dps from rank 5 JoC then just use max rank SoC.
