Let’s talk about Scrollsage Nola, that Tortollan from most of their world quests.
What seems like a sweet old turtle lady is actually the most sinister character in all of World of Warcraft.
Consider the facts:
-
Stormsong Cultists rant about the “cycle of life” when they die. You know who else rants about the cycle of life? Scrollsage Nola.
-
Nola can exist in multiple regions at the same time, and often can even exist in multiple places within the same region simultaneously…almost as if each “Nola” is a mere extension of a sea of branching tentacles.
-
Nola demands that you help turtles reach the sea, and forces you to murder innocent crabs and gulls in the process. What happens to these turtles when they reach the sea? They become sustenance for the elder gods beneath. She is quite literally feeding the old gods with turtle flesh delivered straight to their front doors, like an aquatic Grubhub.
-
Afterwards, Nola demands that you save crabs, although these crabs are now quite different: not only have they mastered the art of dodging projectiles, but they even have learned how to throw turtle shells. This is because these crabs are mere husks of their former selves (which you killed before), now imbued with a dark and sinister intelligence from beyond. She forces you to train these crabs, in an effort to build what will eventually become a foremost fighting force in the takeover of the surface world.
-
She forces you to help young Tortollans learn how to draw shapes. These are not just any shapes, as shown by Nola’s absurdly high standards of excellence for the shapes themselves. Notice that magical shapes exist on the ground in any cultist ritual anywhere in the world. Nola is not only brainwashing the young, but she is transforming them into ritual spellcasters who will use their geometric drawing skills to summon wicked forces from beyond.
The evidence is clear: Scrollsage Nola is an old god, confirmed.
