I have been having an issue when playing WoW since returning for DF.
I find that randomly whilst playing the game, my screen will go black. I can still hear the game playing, but I cannot see anything. The only way to resolve it is by either force restarting my laptop via the power button, or putting it into sleep mode via the power button and then powering back on.
Sometimes, the screen will flicker back on, but the colours will look strange and it is only resolved by the above. Sometimes it will flicker and just be normal.
I have a laptop cooling pad which I use whilst playing and I have not found this issue with any other games I play. I have never experienced this issue since getting my laptop.
It’s not a “feature”; that person is just trolling and probably upset because they’re personally having issues. Nevermind them.
As to your issues, the requirements for each expansion pack do increase every time.
However, things like an instant black screen (with audio still present) point to a video issue, possibly an overheating issue (even though you have a cooling pad).
Try these things:
Make sure you’re running the latest drivers - specifically video drivers - for your machine. Visit the manufacturer’s website to check this, or you can post detailed system specs here and we can help you out.
Make sure that all of the cooling ports on the machine are clean and free from dust, debris or obstruction. You can further check your internal temperatures by using some free software (such as HWMonitor, or any of your choice) to check. Report back on those temperatures here. Of most importance is your CPU and video card temps while playing.
Check your system specs against the minimum specs for WoW, to see if something is lacking.
Also standard troubleshooting:
Power cycle your machine (turn off and then back on).
Do any Windows updates you might need.
Make sure your settings for Power Management are on “Performance,” not “Power Saving.”
Try playing with the charging cable attached, if you’ve not been doing so already.
I will try running HMWMonitor tomorrow and post the results, but for now I have included my DxDiag below. Is this any use?
I updated my graphics card in the past couple of weeks and that has not resolved anything. I also felt it may be an overheating issue as the update did not resolve it.
I will check again for any other updates and post the temp results tomorrow.
I also already play with the charger plugged in and with the battery settings on Performance
