In a world of AoE cap, does MotC stacking still need to exist? Not saying that I don’t like the mechanic because I do. It provides synergy with SEF and clone marking. However, in light of changes over the last few xpacs, it has become kinda like pointless maintenance.
Legion -> BfA saw MotC getting clapped in power level. It became 1/5th of what it used to be. SL saw the implementation of the AoE cap.
Those two changes feel like they basically make MotC redundant. Legion -> BfA took the individual power out of MotC, but you could still make it big if your group had the stones if you did massive pulls. Just saying this now, but I don’t remember when the MotC target marking cap was implemented. Didn’t help its case about existing after AoE caps were implemented though.
In essence, MotC got its power and its purpose taken away from it, so why does it still exist? MotC could be removed and SCK given a flat 50% or 60% buff and we’d likely see better performance. The only time I see SCK pulling big numbers is when DoCJ procs, which is basically if MotC was at its old strength.
Again, I ain’t saying that I don’t like MotC stacking. However, in its current form, it just seems like pointless busywork for AoE. Personally, I’d be in favor of seeing MotC brought back to 40% or 50%. But, as it is now, it just seems like a big “but why tho?”
I think its fine as it justifies the crazy levels of aoe we can hit when the stars align. If they remove it we’ll likely get something worse. That being said its gonna be rough when we lose the mark of the crane conduit because it is the big power behind mark of the crane right now.
It’s there to have our aoe be stuck around some gimmick. If they didn’t have that they would likely just turn SCK either into a bladestorm-like ability on a cooldown, or turn it into some mediocre version you just spammed without any damage ramp up (and likely just have it only be useful for really large pulls while FoF would be used the rest of the time).
Personally, I liked MotC when it felt more impactful. The more impactful it was the more synergy we got with SEF, which is efficient. However, as it is now, DoCJ procs carry SCK instead of MotC which just feels bad. I’d like to see MotC restored to Legion strength, but that is wishful thinking.
Ah the memories of getting up to close to 20 stacks on Return to Karazhan when pulling all the trash to the first bosses door and nuking it all down with high stack SCK.
With how they want limited AOE, I sort of doubt we will ever get back to legion level of SCK damage.
