Scalecommander Deep Breath cancel macro

Hey folks, I’m a big fan of the Scalecommander flavor, but one thing that was really putting me off the spec was how long Deep Breath lasts with the final node. With normal Deep Breath, you can decide how far you want it to go, but with Scalecommander that’s no longer possible and can really cause issues in places like m+ where you can’t afford to be flying across half the map. I created a simple cancel aura macro for Azure Strike to fix this and thought I would share it for those of you having the same problem.

Pretty basic functionality: after casting Deep Breath, use the macro (I have it on Azure Strike for easy access but you can use it with any ability, even with Deep Breath itself) and you will immediately stop casting and drop back to the ground, giving you much more control.

You can recast the ability to cancel it, no need to make a macro (at least that’s how it should work and how I use it)

Recast it to cancel.

There is a built-in safety timer for almost all abilities (divine shield, ice block, to name a few) so that players dont accidentally shoot themselves in the foot. Cancelaura macros work much faster, and might be a good solution for some people that feel the responsiveness of recasting isn’t quite what they want.

I was definitely not a fan at first, but once I learned you could cancel it it started to grow on me. The bad part is I’m probably going to have to change my keybinding then I’ll have to retrain muscle memory.

I use Korumak’s macro with Azure Strike. Work’s great. Love the extra control.

I’ve tried this multiple times with no success. Is it bugged?

It’s not bugged like I said earlier it’s just slow. There is a built-in safety mechanism for spells so you dont accidentally uncast them too fast.

cancelaura macros ignore this timer.

Can a target only be hit once by deep breath?
Is there a point trying to circle around a mob?

Yeah only once unfortunately. It would be really awesome to have some skill expression in getting extra dmg on larger hitbox targets with it, if it was a continuous stream of damage.

Very subtle meta mechanic that some action games are based on like Dragon Nest/Lost Ark where getting as many hits of something through a hitbox is how you optimize damage.

Just to reiterate what others have mentioned, and I should have in my original post as well:

Yes, you can cancel it by recasting, but it’s much slower. Using a cancelaura macro you can cancel it much quicker. This is pretty significant if you’re right next to the target you want to hit and gives you a lot more control.

It’s funny because I’m a chronic double-triple clicker, and I have embarassingly often cancelled my Deep Breath on the spot so fast that my character bugged in animation, or I was in melee with something and quick tapped my deep breath and looked like he was trying to fly. and oops, I didn’t even go far enough to touch the guy in melee with me. I’ve done this so many times so I don’t think there’s a built-in timer. That or I somehow click so fast it bypasses said timer.

The only thing I would change in your macro is remove the Azure Strike, otherwise there is potential for it to be wasted on a blue Iridescence proc or a valuable GCD.
