At the character select screen it says my graphics card drivers are out of date, so I went into my device manager and tried to update them, but the auto scanner told me that I have the current driver updates already. So I clicked on the error link that the !triangle gives you and followed the link’s instructions. The driver download just told me that the new driver wasn’t compatiable and couldn’t be ran on my pc.
So I simply tried it a 2nd time assuming something went wrong and now it wants me to install something called “Radeon Adrenaline 2020”. Is this what I’m supposed to be getting to be up to date with WoW?
My graphics card is AMD Radeon X 580 .
EDIT: Tried installing adrenaline 2020 and keep running into “error 195 - cannot continue because it is unable to access the required web resources”. It recommended I turn off my firewall, so I did and tried again. Same result.
Hi Bolmung
Is this the driver you are trying to install:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/radeon-500-series/radeon-rx-500x-series/radeon-rx-580x
It looks like your security software may be getting involved. What are you running for Antivirus?
I turned it all off. No firewall or antivirus is on. I don’t even have an active sub to my paid antivirus atm.
Try installing the driver I linked.
Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.9.2 Optional - File Size 428 MB - Release Date 9/29/2020
You mention you had a paid Antivirus - what Antivirus was that? Give me the exact details there. We should uninstall it completely - if it isn’t the problem it is a problem waiting to happen. The only way to completely uninstall many Antivirus is to use a software tool provided by the company. Why I need to know the details.
antivrus uninstalled (was jsut some generic name like “windows defender” or something similar)
firewall off
That link keeps just saying “network error” with no other details or options.
edit: I even googled it and it claims it’s an internet connection issue, but I’m clearly connected to the internet. Everything else is perfectly functional.
Hmm - so to be clear the link just fails you can’t even get to AMD downloads?
Let’s flush the DNS. Type Command Prompt in the Windows Search box. On the right pane click “Run as Administrator”. Black command prompt box should open. At the blinking cursor type this line:
ipconfig /flushdns
(space between ipconfig and /flushdns)
Hit enter key to run - should say “Successfully flushed DNS resolver cache” afterwards.
If you are successful then try link again
Just did all that, same issue. I’m gonna cry!
Alright - no tears on keyboard. We are hardly done here yet. Are you having any other issues with accessing websites - things like that.
Nope none, but another person who has the same graphics card as me and also have the !triangle on the char select screen says his graphics card is also up to date and that the reason I’m having this issue is because " Cause it’s confused and doesn’t understand what’s going on. There is no error message for the driver already being there. So it cuts the connection"
Bear with me here - I don’t want you to use the link that Wow is giving you. Close wow and battlenet. I want you to try to click this link to AMD downloads:
https://www.amd.com/en/support/graphics/radeon-500-series/radeon-rx-500x-series/radeon-rx-580x
What happens when you click that.
It’s the exact same thing. Also failed.
The warning you see regarding drivers being out of date is just a helpful suggestion. You are still able to play - correct?
Yes I am still able to play, was just worried I wouldn’t be able to when SL launches because of it.
Regardless, it’s still weird that I can’t install this recommended update. My friend just got his to install just fine with no issues.
UPDATE: It is finally fixed! A friend of mine summoned an Eldritch Tech God friend and he was able to walk me through what went wrong.
The Adrenalin 2020 basically UNINSTALLED my graphics card while trying to install itself, so it had no connection to the card itself. Had to uninstall everything and reinstall everything manually.
Great - so everything is good.
