I have never seen them give anima but even so, for me, reward doesn’t lessen the idiotism of said content.
The save 20 souls quest is honestly a welcome break from the relentless grinding garbage that’s in the game right now. Everyone hops around the Cauldron together - horde and alliance alike - and does it as a group. Takes 5 minutes.
I get them at least 3x a month. Might be something to do with renown or level or something else.
This is very true. Makes it much quicker when the mobs are out of the way and souls are ready to be picked.
It is quick that way which I’ve never done but I don’t think that is my complaint, it’s my point of it just being a nonsense thing. Sorta like the mission board.
I agree somewhat, if the gain (getting 500 anima) was the same it would be much better.
But you’re also getting rep, so there’s that.
Yeah, but Maw dailies are even worse. Asthmatic Alien Chick™ is one of the exceptionally rare reps I will not grind. Just…no.
Frankly, I agree with OP. This quest is lazy design. It’s not a quest. It’s a chore. And it’s boring as crap.
It helps to take a buddy. I do most of my weekly quests with a friend and if we hit the right time it takes longers to leave the maw than it does to knock out 20 souls.
That’s where I am like, '‘ok, you like it ‘cause it has X more rewards’’.
But I just am leaving rewards out 'cause I don’t like having rewards dictate my enjoyment of the initial thing. It’s just a thing done that has always felt bad.
I don’t disagree that it’s a lazy quest. I’m glad it’s a lazy quest compared to the stressful nonsense Ve’nari quests that require you to go sit in Gorgoa and get a stacking debuff, or wander around and pluck souls out of the dirt, or go into areas entirely drenched in elites that fear-chain you until you’re losing 1000 stygia every few minutes until you can run away.
It makes sense storywise but it should be a daily, considering all the souls are going to the Maw and they’d need to be rescuing a lot more than 20 souls per covenant every few days.
Buddy don’t even get me started.
There’s a crappy Bastion world quest in Agatha’s Repose that I tried to make a topic about the other day but forums don’t allow links.
One of the quests is “Close 3 void portals.”
Okay, sounds reasonable, right. Except there’s another, different quest, to also close different void portals.
Both sets of portals are always there even if both quests aren’t simultaneously available.
Both portals look almost identical. You know what the difference is? One of them has a slightly different taper at the top corner.’
Not the biggest deal obviously, one has a click cursor the other doesn’t, but you can’t see them until you’re 5 feet away because they don’t show on the minimap and they don’t actually load in until you’re right next to them (like 20 meters).
Annoying AF.
You hate one particular quest so bad you’d rather not play the entire expansion?
Well alrighty then lol
Yeah exactly, because I was so stupid to look at one quest and stop playing the expansion,… yup that’s what happened

Sort of… The reward is not that great any other time. I rarely do that quest if there’s no Anima. So yes I do that one because of the Anima. Matter of fact I have the quest right now and haven’t even attempted to do it. Just not in the mood, reward or not.
Some people play to raid. Some for other reasons. I play for achievements and yes the rewards of mounts and self satisfaction of completing an achievement are “rewards” I suppose. No matter what though, if you’re doing a quest as a daily or an achievement you don’t mind getting gold or other items.
I used to raid…back in Wrath, That got old fast. My guild died, life happened. Raiding as a pug is no fun and dungeons can be just as bad. No need to go into reasons why…lol.
Point is, most people will do the quests to complete achievements get gear or gold.
I don’t care if I do the quests or not…reward or not. Unless it’s a mount for my collection or a pet etc. I don’t look at it as you do. I dictate my own enjoyment. So if that quest has something I need, like anima, I’ll do it, but it’s not a necessary thing for me.
The quest is really only good for leveling renown after that it’s pointless if no anima.
That’s fine, I made it clear this is my view on it.
I should have clarified…the “you” wasn’t entirely directed towards you. I’m sure there’s plenty who feel the same way as you do.
This was directed to those of you who feel the same way. Pretty much a general you.
Okay I’m going to stop saying you now…
Exactly. Plus of course I like the gold that’s offered after turning it in. Otherwise I just pass it up.
Which omits my complaint but if you like it that’s fine.
Based on game mechanics reasons it has the potential to be a good quest, when it’s offering renown or anima etc. but on its own as a quest nah it’s dumb. There’s no good way to write a repeatable story quest about stealing souls from the Maw.
Rewards don’t fix a quality of a piece of content. It helps to incentivize but it doesn’t help with letting you thi nk ‘’ damn that’s great now ‘’…
Because if you think that when a new reward is given then god help us all.
