He’s not dead. he was only knocked out by Sylvanas.
His endgame is to lul her into a false sense of security, and when she least expects it, drop a Cleave on her.

Stopping a civil war and exposing Sylvanas’s true feelings towards the horde was his honorable death. I guess.
I’m sure he’ll make a cameo appearance with a lot of other dead characters from the past in Shadowlands.
Where we learn that Azeroths dead have never truly been free to their afterlife, that they’ve been ensnared by lingering spirits of The Old Gods, whose tumorous infection of Ny’alotha has grasped the spirit realm.
We the brave heroes of Azeroth must venture here, defeat the Old Gods for once and release the spirits of our fallen to their true fate.
Is what I would say if I had any faith they could actually write that without it being stupid.

Nah hes super dead. Convinced of it at this point. Definitely upset that it wasn’t an honorable death considering Sylvie used magic in a mak’gora
Saurfang isn’t dead. He’s just taking a nap.
He knew that Sylvanas was going to the Shadowlands, so he let her kill him so he would beat her there.
Saurfang is now waiting in the Shadowlands, prepared to ambush Sylvanas and end her once and for all.
