There is a limit of 8 food items to feed savage snapdragons. However, this limit is not mentioned in the text. The only apparent way to overcome this is to abandon the quest and to get it again, with the knowledge each food-item must hit its target.

Wowhead shows that Chitterspine Roe stacks with the usual cap of 20. If you’ve done a UI reset to rule out a display error or misbehaving addon, you’re going to want to post this in the Bug Report forum so QA can take a look.
In a place where it does no good. But that’s your prerogative, I guess. Hopefully someone else experiences it and reports it in the proper place.

Well, that kinda escalated…
If you miss, nothing prevents going back to where the chitterspines hang out and killing one or two more to loot enough roe to finish the quest. (I can vouch for that, since I wasted my first toss thinking that “close enough” would be good enough.)
