I played on satellite for years. The lag was pretty bad. 2-3 seconds on good days. I really couldn’t do group content unless it was with good friends who were very, very patient. Forget PvP.
Hunter was the best choice because once the pet got started (2-3 seconds after I told it to fight), the computer controlled it so at least it didn’t have the lag I did.
I’m not sure how bad 6mbps cable is, but it’s got to be better than 3000ms lag.
25 gigs with multiple people is going to get used up pretty fast. Satelite also has extremely poor data caps. I’d get the cable internet my man, to set up a wireless network. And then try the tethering for your personal use.
You can use old phones, just as long as they’re 4g capable. I was just suggesting a new one because it would be faster. An old 4g phone would still work for internet surfing.
Stick with the cable. While it is slower it is more reliable than Satellite. If you live in an area with any kind severer weather patterns you won’t have a connection… (Heavy rain, snow etc)
I just remembered that when I first was able to switch to DSL from satellite, I had 4MB/s on my DSL and it was WAAAAAYYYYY better than the satellite. I could play just fine, though it took some time to download patches and stuff (still not as bad as satellite).
OP, don’t try to jump through hoops with a phone or anything. Just get the cable. It’ll be fine.
Actually satellite is suitable for wow… a lot of the stigma surrounding satellite internet that exists today is carried over from yesteryears. Back during the days when we still had DSL and Dial-Up internet and satellites were only good enough to provide standard definition tv signal strength.
Satellite and signal strengths have come a long way since the late 90s and early 2000s. Satellite internet is no different than Satellite TV these days… Doesn’t matter if there’s a thunderstorm, hail, and a tornado in town… you can still get a strong 4k ultra hd signal on your television.
The same goes with modern satellite internet… They have lower latency these days (<75ms) compared to back then (600ms+ ping), and provide much faster and reliable speeds than they use to (upwards of hundred+ mbps from some providers)… If your only option is a 6mbps cable connection, even on it’s worse days, satellite will probably still be the best option.
Also HuguesNet, is scheduled to have a new satellite launched in a couple years, which will upgrade their customers to even faster internet to meet the new FCC’s definition of broadband and provide 100mbps service (“Currently under construction, Echostar XXIV is expected to launch in 2021”).
Do not try to play anything on satellite. you will have a constant 300-600 ping, and get disconnected by a large cloud. I was able to play / raid / pvp do just about everything fine on a 1.4Mb DSL connection but on satillite the entire game was absolutely unplayable.
I’m sure it has gotten better in recent years, but every satellite option I have seen also has download caps. Good luck trying to play any kind of game with download caps of 20GB or even 50GB. A gamer can blow through that in an afternoon of updating.
companies like HuguesNet don’t have hard data caps, they give unlimited data, however they operate like a mobile phone provider, where rather they throttle your speed (from 25mbps to 3mbps) if you go beyond your monthly cap, which is still good enough to game on (pretty much small town/rural cable internet speeds), also they have bonus cap times, where if you’re like me and you’re a night owl and still up after 2am until 8am, you get a separate 50gb bonus data cap on top of the regular 50gb data cap.
