Even if San’layn could become playable I dont think I would play one until a necromancer caster class is released. I just cant do it with DKs. I need a true blood caster.
The Penitent are a small group of Man’ari that show their views against the Legion and express a measure of their regret… but they are small in number, compared to the rest of the Man’ari. Small. Insignificant. And those Man’ari who do join the Alliance are strictly considered to be from the Penitent. No outside Man’ari.
The reason behind Man’ari coming into the Alliance doesn’t make sense and is not the real truth. It’s a cover up excuse. You don’t just return a relic and expect the ones you hunted down after such a long time to offer a chance of repentance. Joining the Burning Legion willingly and suddenly regretting the deaths in which you sow is not going to turn heads into reassurance.
I hate to bring this RP server up, but the Man’ari are actively hated and seen with absolute distrust over on MoonGuard. Some are even attacked just for being in the city. Though these are just choices that RPers choose to do, it does confirm one factor that cannot be denied: they are not welcome into the Alliance by the eyes of many.
The real reason for Man’ari coming into the Alliance? To give the player the option of being a “Draenei” Warlock. The Draenei hate the Fel. They don’t want anything to do with it. Man’ari don’t, though.
Yeah I think if necromancer was a class that’s probably what my San’layn would have been.
Right now he’s a DK… He was a San’layn that the Lich King decided was good enough to do an experiment with.
It would NOT go fine. The Alliance’s Draenei may have Velen as a pushover as their leader, but blood elves don’t forget their grudges.
The Sin’dorei take loyalty very seriously and do not tolerate traitors, especially when their Sunwell is under threat. For the Fel-blood to place their loyalty to the Burning Legion and a Fel-corrupted Kael’thas in front of their own people, nevermind willingly fighting against the people they betrayed, it would not go well at all if a few tried to take a peaceful approach.
Unlike the Man’ari, that’s not even considering how many Fel-bloods are left over. While a few single digits are found in Outland, the rest of the Fel-bloods stuck to Kael’thas on Quel’Danas and were eradicated by the resistance.
“. . . .”
It’s not a matter of “If they can control the Void/Fel”. It’s what they have done.
The blood elves that followed Umbric meddled into a runic box they did not understand and out came an Etheral as a result that began converting them. Caught between the lines of a void-corrupted being and elf, Alleria and Locus-Walker assisted them into controlling their void. After such teachings, they then joined the Alliance.
Fel-blood elves are a very extreme version of warlocks, but severely juiced up by Fel corruption, boosted by Kil’jaeden and swearing loyalty to the Burning Legion. The Fel-blood elves could harness the power of making coffee out of their noses and the Horde still wouldn’t let them in.
It’s not the magic that they used. It’s their past actions, change of loyalty and overall betrayal of their people that makes Fel-blood hated.
Which works great for both Felblood and San’layn.
Hell we already had San’layn join in bfa and some of them even survived.
Yes it does… And it is…
If you’re not going to be talking about lore or what happened and go off on headcanon then you got no words in this play.
Which makes sense. No one assumes everyone is OK with it.
There is a lot of distrust which doesn’t go against what has happened.
Their leaders have welcomed them though and the leader of the Penitent even remarks about how hard it will be to get that trust.
That’s not an argument against, it’s the actual narrative that proves Felblood and San’layn work fine.
Lor’themar is actively refuting you every time he does anything.
They didn’t officially join. They were employed and had a mission to do. If they succeeded, the San’layn would formally be brought into the Horde. Since the Alliance got in the way and their mission ended in failure, so too did their joining was denied.
Void Elves are a playable race now. They come from nowwhere, without lore and background as a race. They were a very small group at the beginning too and I think it’s pretty safe to say this group was smaller than all the High Elves from the Silver Covenant or all the Ogres from the Stonemaul clan. At the end, they became a playable race. So I think when we got Void Elves and Mecagnomes as playable race, every other race can become a playable race today.
Also the main problem with San’layn is their hunger for blood, it could be instinctive for them like Void Elves can become “crazy” with the Void when Man’ari Eredar and Felblood can control their “evil side”. San’layn and Void Elves could attack allies by instinct when Man’ari Eredar and Felblood can have the full control of their actions.
Just because they had an out-of-game reason to make them playable doesn’t change the lore says they’re part of the Alliance.
Draenei and Lightforged Draenei can offer redemption for other evil races / people if these races / people can get a redemption.
Midnight is coming and can’t wait for subraces or atleast character customization options soon for the darkfallen in general.
So again, they were already given a chance and an outside force interfered.
Which proves they can join either way.
Both The San’layn and Felblood have precedent for joining.
Especially with Lor’themar being so accommodating to the concepts of bringing his people home, rather than needlessly hating them.
The Midnight reveal is coming up fast, but with a new month, it’s still a great time to submit in-game feedback in support of races we want to see playable, Horde San’layn included. I’ll show you how!
With the beginning of each month, I make in-game suggestions for each race I want to see playable along with a mention of their respective megathreads on these forums. While it is far from a guarantee of seeing our dreams come true, I do think every little bit helps, and doing it monthly I feel is reasonable and not that intrusive or annoying.
If you’re interested in doing the same for races you want to see playable, I made a little guide on how to do so in-game here:
Still hoping that Horde San’layn will be one of the Elf tribes we unite! Especially on that character creation screen!

–Still dreaming of playable Horde San’layn as a full race!

This is an important point that will likely be shown off in the whole “uniting the Elf tribes” theme of Midnight.
And considering this point, it doesn’t make sense to me why San’layn would be exempt given their backstory. Sure, they were originally Kael’thas’ followers, but they were forced to turn into San’layn. And I doubt many of them would be happy upon hearing what all Kael’thas did afterwards.
Then of course you had Blood Princess Thal’ena trapped in a Dalaran jail cell, who likely didn’t ask to become what she is to begin with, along with potentially other San’layn we may not know about jailed elsewhere. And it’s hard for me to imagine her just stewing away in there without any of the Blood Elves taking particular interest.
Moreso when you consider that Blood Elves had a pretty big presence in Dalaran, including Aethas. I can’t imagine him or any of the other Blood Elves not wanting to study the San’layn curse to help them and in case more Blood Elves can turn into them.
Sure, this was around Legion’s time, so the Blood Elves there came back and may have been a bit busy, but you’d think they would have someone working on researching it. And you’d think Aethas or someone with ties to Dalaran like Rommath would have heard of it and informed Lor’themar about it.
It’s possible some progress could have been made, with Thal’ena getting control of herself, but with Dalaran having gone boom, that research could’ve also gone up in smoke. Could be a great reason to have Thal’ena escape with any other San’layn there, which would make for a great starting questline for new San’layn players of course.
And in such a scenario, assuming they made their way to Ghostlands, it’s hard for me to imagine Lor’themar turning them away. Sure, some would be dubious with how some San’layn still have acted, possibly because of the curse they have, and having been mostly former followers of Kael’thas, but when did something like that stop Death Knights or Demon Hunters from becoming playable classes?
So it’s far from an impossibility to see San’layn exempt from being a Elf tribe that gets united. And I’m sure Felblood Elves can be given the same treatment. Even Druids of the Flame have been getting a bit of a redemption arc from turning away from that group.
Thus why I hope to see San’layn as part of the whole united Elf tribes theme. There is so much lore and backstory to them that it fits very well to have them join the Horde and become playable in some fashion.

“Icons for Blood-Queen Lana’thel themed Transmog set found in-game.”
“Was perusing through the new icons added with the new Total RP3 update for the patch and these caught my eye. I don’t ever recall this set being datamined for this patch. Could this be part of a future trading post? That would be so awesome.”

It’s always amazing how so many people seem to forget that the very first action those San’layn did was sacrifice their escorts at the first sign of trouble.
Considering the theme of Midnight and uniting Elf tribes along with The Last Titan taking place in Northrend, I am curious to see armor sets like that pop up. It could very well not mean a whole lot, but it is interesting timing.
There are a number of possibilities it could be from:
-The October Trading Post could be a factor, though assuming we did get playable San’layn as a full or customization race, something like that would go well with them. Not sure if that would factor into it much, since we’d likely get any playable races, customization or core/allied, after October.
-I suppose if there was a WotLK Remix at some point in the future, that would fit well, though I don’t know the chances of it and even then, when it would happen. A bit far off to have something like this in the files somewhere.
-And assuming we do have San’layn appear, join the Horde, and assist fighting whatever big bad is in Midnight, there could be some San’layn themed armor sets to unlock by grinding rep/renown with them. Could also apply with The Last Titan as well.
-If somehow we got a Winter Veil miracle and we got San’layn as a full playable Horde race, Allied or Core, I don’t know if that could work as a heritage armor. You’d also need a Blood Prince set to go with it. Wonder if that could be a possibility…
-I am hoping it isn’t a cash shop item. That would be a bit disappointing to see and money isn’t exactly flowing into my bank account, so I can’t really let it flow out of it too much.
So definitely a few possibilities here. However, I still suggest tempering expectations. It could just be a fun thing that got thrown in without much planning behind it.
Still…having San’layn items like this would help to increase playable Horde San’layn interest again. But we’ll have to wait and see if they’ll be one of the Elf tribes we work to unite.
And of course I’d like to see a Blood Prince armor set to go with this. Stuff like that would go well if we did happen to get playable Horde San’layn, even as just a Customization Race.

Now this is interesting stuff.
More San’layn options like that the better for those who wants to be Vampires in WoW.
