San’layn/vampyr Elf ALLIED RACE Coagulated Megathread of Ideas{Re-VAMPed} (Part 1)

I think it’s a really good time to take a break from the game, myself. When 8.3 comes out, I’ll be more refreshed and ready to unlock and make my Vulpera and MechaGnome characters. :robot:

It also may be awhile before we get any more information about Shadowlands, but when the time does come, this megathread will still be here. It also stands on its own with all the ideas presented within it.

I’m still casually visiting the various megathreads, myself, but a break from the game is something I personally needed. Plus I’ve been getting to my backlog of video games while also doing stuff with my parents, so getting sort of away from WoW a bit has helped a lot to avoid burnout.

I still plan to show my support for the usual Horde races I want, of course. That fiery passion will always burn brightly! :bat: :japanese_ogre: :crocodile:

You know, I just had a thought and I had to jump on the forum and say this.

So, we know that we’ll be seeing some familiar faces in Shadowlands. What if (and this is just a theory) we see Kael’thas again and he manages to somehow escape back to Azeroth. Obviously he’s undead and probably wouldn’t be leading the blood elves again. Maybe he’ll gather up the remaining San’layn and become their leader or something? I mean it’s a big what if but it kinda sounds like the perfect set up for an allied race TBH

The next best chance to hear San’layn lore is 8.3 with the new death knights. It’s interesting to see how the void elves will take being dks. Will they cross over with the san’layn theme?

I would like to see how the new starting zone plays off but I am running short on character slots sadly : /.

We also have 8.3.5 if anything and or the shadowlands beta/ alpha to look forward to for lore drops. I would be surprised if the San’layn are not somehow relevant to that zone. It would be a huge missed oppurtunity. I hope blizz considers maintaining the flow of allied races as well. They may be concerned with oversaturating the market with them. As wow players I hope to see more. I am always looking forward to new heroes and skins in overwatch. To me the allied races give me a similar vibe to be excited about.

Not usually a San’layn supporter,

But this time I advocate their existence to be inclusive to either side or remain neutral for both factions, given the nature of Venthyr’s realm and it may likely shed some light regarding their vampiric nature origins and so forth.

PS: Can’t stomach these high elf threads…a parasite

Thanks, I’ll give that a look

Yeah I’m not playing as much, but I’ve returned to roleplay and run events with my guild. The new patch should bring some more stories and conflict, which should be fun for roleplayers. This last one ended at a note in which there really isn’t much external conflict to battle. We’re making more stories, but more content from the outer-world will be much fun.

That’s one of the scenarios we’re hoping for! I commissioned Galder for a fan are piece of vampyr (San’layn) Kael’thas that came out wonderfully. I still love that piece and hope it inspired Blizzard at least somewhat. It truly is a good plan, especially if Shadowlands races aren’t to be playable but come with thematically appropriate races, in which San’layn would fit.

We still have no idea how that scenario goes, do we? The patch is coming out soon. I feel like we should know at this point, yet we have no idea. How utterly strange.

I’m fine with the idea of any race being neutral, really. That wouldn’t bother me in the least. There are vampyr humans in Stormheim, so perhaps the curse could either be a customization option on Alliance side for humans or even an Allied Race under ‘vampyr’ where if you pick human, you go alliance, and if you pick Thalassian Elf, you go Horde. Could be interesting!

I promise you we’re not high elves, we stick to our thread generally (at least I try to unless the topic is generalized AR, where I’ll post like once that I support San’layn) and just want to share ideas. That’s all. I put a lot of work into sharing my ideas and such and try to give the community a positive voice.

Thanks very much ^^ Speaking of which, I do have one more idea I was thinking of bringing up while I’m here.

So… Vencio mentioned something about a ‘neutral thing’ going for these ideas, and that got me thinking. A lot of people are considering how these covenants might bring in some cosmetics or races in the new expansion. Here’s a "what if ".

What if we have a questline with the San’layn relating to the Venthyr (assuming they are connected somehow, via blood curse or whatever they want to call said curse afflicting their lust for blood) in which vampyr options are opened up for ALL Races? Now, you might be thinking this would be lots of work. Blood Elves would the the San’layn, yes, with fangs, claws, & eye color variants.

But that could be one of the special cosmetic things we could unlock for covenants. They made special options for DKs in terms of ALL races, which means sickly skin, some different hair colors, and lichfire eyes. This probably was a lot of work, so this idea might be a longshot, but you never know. It could be like Night Warrior but a much longer, expanded questline.

Now, what about the other covenants? Well, what if they did something similar? A fae-like modification for your character, some lightforging for the Bastion (HAH if that happens, though it would put LFD in a curious spot), and something far more death-like for the necromancer faction. I haven’t put much thought into what those ones would get.

But as for Revendreth, I think maybe vampire options for the races that go through some sort of neat questline (which, if it related to San’layn and the vampyr vrykul, would be AWESOME because we’d get the lore I personally have been wanting for a while) would be cool. The leader of the vampyr on Horde side could be a San’layn blood prince, and on Alliance, maybe a vampyr human or vry’kul.

Wanted to wish everyone a happy new year. I don’t know what the future holds for San’layn, but know that I’ll continue to help support them as a playable race as best I can. :bat:

Happy New Year folks! Hope you’ve all been doing well. Things have been quiet lately (Like I’ve said many times now) but eh, I think we’re all waiting for the path and a bit burned out of idea sharing. At least, I am :stuck_out_tongue: Still! Thanks for the kind words, as usual!

I made a blood elf death knight during the anniversary event…I’d be highly inclined to race change to San’layn if it was an option =]

I was thinking about a playable faction of San’layn and wanted to open a discussion regarding personality.

My opinion regarding playable San’layn personality should be similar to Blood Elves, in that they’re regal, sometimes narcissistic and vain, and having some sense of ferocity, likely not too happy about having been slaves to the Lich King and having gotten into the state they are in. Of course, they would be supportive of the Horde, having found a group that will help their survival, but a little light snark here and there wouldn’t hurt.

There are some Blood Elves who look down on the other Horde races, such as one merchant in Eversong Forest who refuses to sell to Darkspear Trolls (unsure about Zandalari), and if anything, some San’layn NPC’s could make comments on trying to adjust to being a member of the Horde. Such comments would be meant as funny flavor text as opposed to something all San’layn feel.

San’layn 1: Are you getting use to Orgimmar?
San’layn 2: Somewhat. I’m not quite use to how barbaric the other races can be.
San’layn 1: Indeed. Seems like all I hear are loud laughing and belches miles from the taverns in the city. It’s hard to get some needed rest.
San’layn 2: On the other hand, I’ll take that over being a thrall of the Lich King again.
San’layn 1: I’ll take a thousand belching Ogres over being the Lich King’s lap dog again!

Tauren 1: How are you handling the San’layn? Most seem alright, but they can be quite uppity!
Orgimmar Innkeeper: Quite well, actually! They either come here to sleep in a coffin or hang out on the railing as bats. Business is excellent!
Tauren 1: Hmm…not sure how I feel sleeping with them above me. Especially around breakfast time…

Something they shouldn’t be is conniving or antagonistic. Snarky, sure, but they shouldn’t be planning things behind the Horde’s back like with some of the Forsaken previously, and they shouldn’t be selfish. If anything, San’layn should be viewed as a tragic race, similar to how the Forsaken are viewed. Still, they would stand proud and tall for who they are and have a form of elegance around them. They were in a bad situation before, and should feel at home within the Horde and thankful that they have allies and have a chance to survive.

On another note, I thought of some examples of voice text to use when clicking on them:

  1. For the Blood Queen/King/Prince!
  2. My life for the Darkfallen.
  3. The San’layn will persevere!
  4. At last, we have found a home in the Horde.
  5. Pray you never meet a fate similar to ours.

Of course, despite annoyance lines being removed, I’ll post a few for fun:

  1. Poke me again and I’ll show you the perks of the Horde’s dental plan.
  2. I’m close to showing you a bloody good time.
  3. I’m tempted to take you out for a quick bite.
  4. Do all Horde members poke everyone like this?!
  5. Hey! Watch the hair!
  6. Still not as annoying as Arthas…so far.

I’ll think more over how to approach playable San’layn personality, but I would like to hear some opinions regarding it.

Sounds pretty good to me.
I kinda like that they’re not sneaking around behind people’s backs as well. More regal would be nice.

I love your ideas. I actually talked about it before in the discord server, but an idea I had for a racial ability is Blood Scrying. When you attack a certain character/NPC, you have tasted their blood and can see them through stealth and walls for a period of time, let’s say 10 seconds. The same format as Spectral Sight for DH, but a passive ability for Darkfallen that can have some uses in combat and just for flavor (no pun intended lol)

Best wishes from me, hope you’re all well.

For me - getting the San’layn and High elves would probably be the highlist of my life. And here’s some things I’ve been thinking about!

Why did we get Void elves instead of High Elves? If you really think about it, there is 10x more High elves, then there are Void elves - and we have no comfiration they’re even expanding - so trying to collect lore on Void elves, and make a lore-friendly character for roleplay is excruciating - because it was a scenario of “Oh, you all want Alliance Blood elves? Have these random elves with a lack of lore!” We haven’t had much on them. Not to mention the High elves have all but sided with the Alliance irregardless - Vereesa being a main mention of this as she openly sided against the horde with Jaina - after her husbands death.

San’layn would also make a good opposite for High elves and would also give us the ‘Werewolf vs Vampires’ - I would say make it where you can opt to use the night elf or blood elf model [Kind of like the posture with orc’s] as well. However, my only thoughts are since they completely have separated Sylvanas from the horde - who would recruit them? Lor’themar? That is highly unlikely - but a possibility. They may take pity on the Darkfallen.

BUT, here is also my thoughts - why not make San’layn, and High Elves as a neutral faction? There are High elves that side with the horde, and there might be some San’layn that sides with the Alliance?

There is so much concept, design, art, and everything else towards both of these races at this point - it almost seems like a waste to NOT add them in. There are so many open models that people have created for both, ideas, histories, and so much more and yet blizzard does not use a single one.

Makes me curious, I know they have pretty much halted the idea of High elves.

Huh.

I love this quite a bit ^^ Ironically it definitely wouldn’t match up with my characters, but would with the expected stereotypes. My whole “City of monsters” roleplay/character theme is definitely not in line with how people see elves, to be honest. I do like how they’d feel very connected to Forsaken while remaining very regal.

It’d have very Toreador (vampire the Masquerade) vibes for sure. I think more jumpy would be interesting too, since they’re supposed to be kill on sight right now (though that’s a roleplay community thing so might not apply.)

Thanks  You as well.

I’m fine with any race being a neutral one, to be honest. I’m pretty upset that there’s not cross faction play, as a matter of fact–even though there’s a questline for a “peace treaty” coming up which is ridiculously POINTLESS considering literally nothing changes in terms of being able to play with each other. Ah well.

The issue I see with San’layn is that in BfA, many San’layn killed Alliance members, and Alliance in turn butchered them (Dreven and his crew). I’m not sure if they’d either readily get over that or be accepting of undead.

Real quick. I’d like to add an idea for a hairstyle for San’ayn. I won an art raffle and got a piece done for one of my original character vampires. This is from my personal novel series. But it can apply here too (and he looks like a vampire elf so hah!).

Void elves KINDA have this hairstyle, but San’ayn could probably pull it off so better (plus this is shorter and more punk than goth.)

I still can’t post images though, so…
