You guys think it’s real or fake?
Fake as hell. There’s no way they’re doing another elf-only class and a quick reverse image search led me to a Redditor with a sketchy post history as the source.
I’m not arguing that it’s fake, but Dark Ranger wouldn’t have to be limited to elves anymore. Nathanos has be training Forsaken Dark Rangers and he himself is a undead human Dark Ranger (more fleshy.) Heck, they might even go the DK route.
I think it would be cooler if there was somehow a group of humans afflicted with the sanlayn curse. They could join the horde and give horde the human model
I really don’t care what race the sanlayn are, I just like their lore and aesthetic
Maybe not a new class, but rather a kind of cosmetic “skin”? A package that turns spells visuals and names into a “Dark Ranger” flavor.
That idea for themed “skins” for some race/class combos has been floating about for the last six months or so. “Vindicator/Light” Shadow Priests, “Sunwalker/Nature” Tauren Paladins, “Necromancer” Warlocks, etc. “Fire” Death Knights being one of the latest idea being thrown around.
Rumor is Blizzard is doing neither a new class nor new races this expansion, but rather revamping/consolidating the various 1-20 starting experiences and revamping the existing classes. Class “skins” would be a good compromise to still give us new cosmetic options, both for races and classes.
At this point, seeing newer and newer “leaks” spring up and getting debunked or argued over, I’m just going to try to keep an open mind until I see what Blizzcon actually holds in 5 days. I have a feeling we’re going to see all sorts of “leaks” pop up. x- x
Time to spin some new leeks to counter these new “leaks” being spun.
I appreciate your willingness to adapt to the new order.
I mean…you say that.
I am many things, but ‘furry’ isn’t on that list
I was more engaging in general furry… Bigotry?
Fair enough, I know quite a few that are very nice people, and kind. Changed my perspective on the matter. The extremists are very… yikes, but that’s the same with every community.
This one included… shudders
Most likely fake, but looks dope as heck!
Considering that so far only Sylvanas Loyalists are Dark Rangers, one would presume there would have to be a major shift on who can become a Dark Ranger in order for them to be playable.
I mean I agree it’s fake, but if DR’s were to be playable, I’d think they’d find a way to not make them elf only.
Heh, yeah. I guess I’m still perplexed as to why this seems to persist as a derogatory term leveled at Worgen. It’s as baffling as the “no more elves” response to San’layn.
Like, did I miss a memo or something? Is it really uncool to like werewolves and vampires in 2019 or something?
I still love them both. Maybe I’m a relic of a different age of fandom, though
Yes, and that’s because of the STUPID TWILIGHT nonsense that’s always used to bring us down.
I full out describe my vampires in my books ripping the hearts out of people and eating them like apples. There’s also this one scene where one of them is shot but he casually summons chains, drags the shooter over, and rips out the human’s throat, “guzzling him down like a human would beer on a hot summer.”
I don’t do the sparkly pansy nonsense even if I do like paranormal romance to some extent >< It drives me nuts as an author that enjoys writing vampires in my own way.
There is hope in both Vampire the Masquerade, that new werewolf game coming out, and Castlevania (for vampires).
It has been awhile since I talked anything regarding my writings around here. Since I haven’t really been able to do much of it for awhile, and given the storyline in BfA has changed to be more of World of Peacecraft, I figured I would talk some about my ideas I had hoped to write out.
As usual, I’ll preface by saying that my ideas aren’t perfect. A lot of them were designed to show the San’layn in a different light (aside from the moonlight of course), and to offer story ideas of them becoming playable.
To start with, you may have noticed I used Dreven a lot when I write for this megathread. It’s a bit of an issue, given that the last we saw of Dreven was an explosion that was worse than an outhouse at a Taco Bell festival. I felt that the whole “hint” that San’layn could become an allied race was reason enough to think of a scenario where Sylvanas used her Val’kyr to revive him, wanting to keep the San’layn under her control…only to have it backfire against her as the San’layn ally themselves with the Horde for survival while comparing her to the previous Lich King.
There was also the issue where Dreven is made out to be a mustache-twirling saturday morning cartoon villain, killing the Forsaken on the boat and planning to blame the Alliance on their deaths. One way I thought about writing around this was that most of the Forsaken on the ship were extreme Sylvanas loyalists and wanted Dreven to demean himself and swear allegiance to the Banshee queen while threatening to blackmail him and his kind if he didn’t “get in place.” Needless to say, Dreven wouldn’t be amused and given that his people’s fate was being threatened, decided to take advantage of the situation and eliminate the threat to his people’s survival, with the Alliance appearing being viewed as “fortuitous” at first glance.
Writing this way paints Dreven as a bit more sympathetic and works around the whole “him as a villain” idea. We also saw Dreven through the eyes of the Alliance, and of course he is made to be looking like he is evil and out for himself because of it. This after he played Gnomesketball earlier in the Alliance war campaign. It also helps push Dreven more away form Sylvanas, becoming her foil like I’ve written a few times, and more likely for the San’layn to be loyal to the Horde and join them not just for survival, but to reconnect with living kin in Silvermoon.
I haven’t worked too much with an unlock scenario writing. I was debating writing the San’layn helping against the remaining blood trolls in Nazmir as their introduction to Horde players, and I also had planned my “Battle for Silvermoon” idea to also be their unlock scenario before I opted for something different.
Speaking of which, since many things have happened since then, I’ll go ahead and talk about my “Battle for Silvermoon” idea. It was meant to be something the solidified the Horde together with all the races involved, core and allied, reaffirming their loyalty to the Horde after a very hard battle.
Generally speaking, the idea was that Jaina was porting in several different Alliance armies to storm Silvermoon from the Ghostlands while being led by Alleria (insane with the void and wanting to get Silvermoon for the Alliance), Genn, and Tyrande while the Horde was busy in the BfA areas. To counter this, Thalyssra would porting to different Horde allies and porting their units to assist in the area. All the playable Horde races, as well as Ogres (of course!), would’ve made an appearance in this scenario.
The situation gets dire, given the Alliance had a head start, and Sylvanas, learning about this, decides that if the Alliance breach Silvermoon to the point of taking over it, then she’ll just blight the whole city. This creates a situation where the Horde either has to worry about the Void Elves getting to the Sunwell, and we know how that went, and Sylvanas just blighting the city without a care with all the Horde still in the area.
In terms of San’layn, they would’ve had a big role here since they came from Silvermoon, and it would’ve solidified their allegiance to the Horde while giving them reason to have a base in the Ghostlands afterwards, to help keep an eye on the area for the Blood Elves for approaching armies and such.
The ending I had in mind, in which Silvermoon was breached and a last stand close to the sunwell occurs, would’ve had Anduin, realizing what Jaina and the others had done, porting in with Alliance mages and demanding that the Alliance army ceases and desists, much to the chagrin of the Alliance units there and much to the complaints of Jaina and Alleria. They reluctantly agree to withdraw, having ruffled Anduin’s jimmies quite a bit.
The purpose I had in mind of this was to give the Horde a reason to go full on war-mode, which seemed to be the direction BfA went at the time, and with each of the Horde racial leaders stating their loyalties to the real Horde, and that as soon as Sylvanas was dethroned, the Alliance would have to be fall and be utterly destroyed for the Horde to survive.
It isn’t perfect by any means and I never got to write out specific parts of it, thanks to real life obligations. Since the current real story has changed drastically, I figured I would at least share some of it since a few people enjoy my writings.
If possible in the future, I’ll try to get some inspiration to do some more writing again for the Horde races I want to be playable (Ogres, Saurok, San’layn). Can’t make any promises it will be anytime soon, though.
At any rate, there are ways to write playable San’layn well while offering a great storyline, and hopefully we’ll see them become playable instead of loot pinatas as Sylvanas’ job squad in a raid.
Blizzcon and Halloween are both getting closer, and all I have in my trick-or-treat bag is a lot of hope.
Personally I think you do an excellent job with your writing. I love the ideas shared here on the thread, and you have contributed so much with yours. You’ve really personified the character and even if it’s not meant to be for Dreven, perhaps it can be applied to Theraldis or Atherann. You never know.
This could work, also an ‘at all costs order’. You as the Horde hero were tasked to find the body of Derek, and you succeeded while the Alliance hero was distracted by the San’layn and forsaken on the other ship. If Sylv had told Dreven to do whatever was necessary to keep them from interrupting that task, well… he did his job. I wish we knew the exact order, to be honest.
This would make sense, as they had a pretty big presence in Nazmir and I can imagine that if there are any remaining of Dreven’s forces (which let’s be real there should be, considering ALL of them being on a single ship in the middle of the ocean would be stupid), they’d be in that area. This would also gain the favor of Talanji, of whom didn’t really trust them to begin with. Finally, the rep could be tied to the Nazmir area for the unlock, which I’m sure people wouldn’t mind. There’d need to be an Alliance equivalent in terms of rep, but then again they aren’t equal with Vulp or Mechas (2 patch difference) So…
Yeah many ideas are down the drain considering the ending of the faction war seems viable. But all might not be lost anyway. Thrall had given mercy to the Forsaken and could do the same to the San’layn if they’re willing to direct their hunger against enemies (quite like Death Knights) and fight for the Horde and their city. They are undead with a free will, no doubt. This was made abundantly clear by their actions in 8.0, they ‘need a home’. They had to seek one out in order for that to be said. Therefore, I still think it’s entirely possible that they can have an arc similar to DK & Forsaken.
I still feel that San’layn can work just fine in a neutral world between the Horde and Alliance. I’m sure the majority of the Horde have done worse than make a Gnome explode…likely the Gnomes have done it to themselves accidentally a few times.
I also think Thrall would be very much open to the idea. I mean, he let the Forsaken in, with mixed results, let Warlocks take residence in Orgimmar, with more mixed results, and even let Death Knights in, which…seems to have worked out so far. If San’layn are seeking survival, are related to the Blood Elves, and have a lot to offer the Horde, I don’t see why he wouldn’t give them a chance.
Friday is almost here, and more and more rumors are circulating regarding Northrend and Bolvar. Still want to keep an open mind, but hope keeps growing. <- <;
Do…do we need more elves?
We don’t need anything. We can close the doors on any new races, classes, specs, zones, or expansions right now if we wanted.
But nice things are nice to have. That’s what makes them nice.
Maybe it will be a class skin for hunters!!! Hoping at least.
Well I’m sort of tired of humans. Aren’t worgen human 1/4? 1/6 if u count dwarves and gnomes.
