The spirit of the Horde is of many different races banding together for survival. Poor homeless vampires should always have a place among them :c
I know. But when Blizzard wants to paint something as evil, they sure do emphasize it. I was hoping for some nuance and depth to them, so they’d end up like Death Knights. But… I don’t think that’s going to happen.

And so Sylvanas and Nathanos continue their personal scandalous adventures in the background, leaving the Horde behind. Meanwhile, the Horde now no longer has a warchief, a leader of the orcs, or a leader of the forsaken, and the Alliance embraces them with open arms. Meanwhile, Calia steps up to be the “shepherd” for wayward and displaced undead, giving them “hope” as they embark on their personal adventures, all while Sylvanas has been actually working with Azshara and has been feeding big boi N’zoth in preparation for a mass purge of life on Azeroth.
What the hell.
I’m very sorry San’layn Folks. It seems that the Awesome Amazing Vampire like Elves into the Horde isn’t going to be thing now that Sylvanas is out of the picture.
Thanks Blizzard for not giving the Forsaken a Cooler Allied Race since its going to be nothing or Lightforged Undead… Give me a break.
Honestly this is sad because I happened to play a Evil Sick Undead Warlock that likes to kill everyone on slight in the Alliance or perhaps Horde if the Horde isn’t Racist to Undead Folks but still I just can’t live the Evil Horde Fantasy without having Lightforged Undead walking on the horde side. I had the same problem with the Void Elves walking around as a Alliance since I have been stuck in this mindset of Alliance Good Fantasy of seeing Noble and Good Hearted Races walking around it. I don’t know just everything is just wrong.
I’m just disappointed with this Expansion as a Whole.
Hope you guys like lightforged undead, because that’s what we’re getting.

Most likely. Just…wow. Alright, apparently that’s what the community wants. I guess this will be a goodbye.
I hate to see you leave Fallynn. It sucks because this is not the Warcraft of what it used to be now in days in terms of being a Forsaken, Night Elf, and etc.
I don’t think anybody likes Calia.
Well, except for one British guy who makes videos about WoW on Youtube…
…
Nobody else likes Calia.
Heelvsbabyface or Bellulargaming? I forget who is the British Guy on YouTube again for WoW?
Taliesin. I don’t know where the other two stand, but Taliesin has un-ironically supported Calia’s role in the story.
As long as Lightforged Forsaken stays on the Alliance I don’t care. I mean at this point I just don’t want the Forsaken to be ruined as a perfect good shoes race instead of being a toxic evil race of death and destruction.
I know we Alliance folks already had Horde Races like Blood Elves or Void Elves with the Thalassian Model on there. I guess Lightforged Forsaken on the Alliance would be better than nothing. I just hope in the end Forsaken might have a playable Allied Race like San’layn or Nathanos like Human undead risen.
As detestable as Calia is, there is still nothing to suggest “Lightforged Forsaken” are even a thing.
I just got back from taking an exhausting Finance exam after getting little sleep as I run on caffeine pills, and while I have not completely digested all that has been shown…I am not really too fond of what has cropped up. Not because of lack of San’layn, but just the way the story is going.
I’ll write down my thoughts at a later point in time, hopefully when I’m able to get some sleep and am not stressed thanks to college, but I have many issues with the Horde seemingly becoming Alliance bootlickers once again, and the events with Sylvanas, while expected, makes me question if any remaining San’layn are going with her to be jobbers and such as I feared.
Speaking of, while I am appreciative of those who enjoyed my writings, granted they were far from perfect, I can’t help but feel guilty about potentially setting up expectations for a San’layn allied race…only to be let down. Of course, I never really expected Blizzard to pay much to my writings, here and any other race megathreads, let alone following them to a T as they have their own plans, but I can’t help but feel a bit guilty with potential expectations that were formed from my ideas. x- x
Does this rule out San’layn completely? No, it doesn’t, but since the war campaign has ended, I am wondering if there are any other allied races this expansion. Sure, the system can be carried in future expansions, and sure, there is a Horde and an Alliance faction that can recruit races into their fold for non-war purposes, but I’m not sure what to expect going forward…and not in a good way.
Blizzcon is going to more or less break it for people, myself included depending on what is shown there. I may consider taking a hiatus from the game as well if there isn’t much of interest announced there, aside from any new allied races whatever they would be.
At any rate, Fallynn, I’m sure I said this before, but I am thankful for the inspiration you and others have given me to show support for playable races I want, inspiring me to write for the San’layn and Ogre megathreads, and for inspiring me to create my own Saurok megathread. I still want to continue my support for Ogres/Saurok/Vulpera/San’layn, of course, and I don’t regret my time in the various megathreads that cropped up. We’ll see what happens, though, if I will end up taking a hiatus or not.
Funny you mention this, as I was off and on debating trying ESO. There is a Lizard Man race (Argonian), and recently the Necromancer class was announced, so I was tempted to remake my Iksar Necromancer in the game and try it out. I’ve been really in a lizardman mood as of late, and there aren’t many MMO’s out that quite scratch that itch.
At any rate, while I’ll try to keep an open mind on what has transpired going forward…I feel a bit ehh with the direction the game is going as a whole. x- x
Fair enough, although I’ve seen some people express want for them simply to “stick it to the Horde” which hardcore makes me roll my eyes. Then, there’s some people who genuinely do want them, and while I completely disagree and hope to never see Lightforged Undead, I can respect that they want it while still holding my ground that I think it’s a terrible idea.
And yeah, there’s not any additional evidence for it aside from more story. It just… it seems like they’re going paths that are so incredibly predictable, black and white, with no nuance, that I found myself shaking my head, and I don’t even like Sylvanas. I was hoping for something that was a twist after they insisted it’s not MoP 2.0.
My reaction and commentary toward San’layn being almost impossible now is due to that. It seems like what they show on the surface is reality, and there likely is no elbow room for it. What was shown on the surface was that in 8.0, San’layn worked with Sylv (yes, needing a home, and if they succeeded, they’d join the Horde), failed their mission, got killed on the boat, and betrayed the forsaken by consuming them.
Everyone’s seen me speculate here in the thread the various reasons and ideas that could explain the if’s, ands, and buts. The problem is, that would require an in depth story, and if they can’t even do that with the war campaign, then they certainly aren’t for ideas like this.
At least, that’s what it feels like. This is one scenario where I really hope I am proven wrong. That is, my ever-increasing doubt that they were little more than lackies.
I guess we’ll find out at Blizzcon. If there’s no mention of San’layn and their lore at that point, I think we can indeed say we gave it our best shot and call it.
(Yes, I have returned to comment on this matter, primarily because I have decided to stick around until Blizzcon like some madwoman that thinks there might still be hope for something other than a MoP repeat)
You guys have a good one. I’m taking my break off of the Forums. I hope one day that not only does High Elves become playable but also San’layn as well. It would be a nice big boost to subs that Blizzard is losing and with San’layn being playable. They could also help out the Forsaken Fantasy even more.
Until then. Have a good one.
I have enough faith in the devs that they wouldn’t introduce a playable race purely for reasons of spite. That’s the equivalent of tossing a grenade into your community for no good reason.
Void elves were controversial, but they came from a legitimate desire to give something to the players who wanted playable Thalassian elves on the Alliance. And this desire is something that was cultivated over years of requests. They’ve been asking for them since day 1 of WoW’s release, when the elves of Silvermoon were conspicuously absent.
I can’t imagine requests for “pure undead” are in any way comparable to that. And if they gave them to the Alliance, that would be quite a silly reason to completely break the existing faction identities.
“Alliance gets another race that can be a paladin!”
“Um…yay?”
The biggest surprise the war campaign had in store was that the war ended through a messianic sacrifice rather than a full-on siege like everyone was afraid of. I still haven’t wrapped my head around whether or not it was necessarily “good,” but I’ll admit my interest in BFA’s lore had little to do with the overarching war campaign. It was always sort of… the B plot for me.
Getting to know the new cultures like the Sethrak and Ankoans, and seeing how the voices of Death and the Void were working behind the scenes has always taken the lion’s share of my interest. And it’s heartening to know that this development seems to be continuing, as Sylvanas has played her hand, revealed her hidden potential, and still gets off scot-free to continue her agenda.
I’m also fascinated by the fact that, despite this, she doesn’t abandon the Horde loyalist. They get summoned to a private meeting, given exclusive information about her motives, and are told that they will be summoned again. If were Sylvanas were merely a simple villain, she would be the first villain in WoW’s history that players could choose to wholeheartedly support. You couldn’t even do that with Garrosh.
I get the feeling that the role of death-aligned forces is far from done with regards to this narrative. In recent months/years we have seen the re-consolidation of the Ebon Blade under the Lich King, a few interesting retcons/explanations in Chronicle that make Arthas much closer to Illidan in terms of his motives, and an expansion of the types of known undead creatures such as Nathanos, Calia, the Night Elf Dark Rangers, and the return of the San’layn. This isn’t coincidental. The next story beats are going to be massively concerned with the undead.
I don’t necessarily know what that means. It could mean playable undead variants of known races. It could mean nothing at all, or it could mean the arrival of the long-hypothesized third faction.
Either way, I’m actually quite excited for what, if anything, they reveal this Blizzcon. Sylvanas is part of the key art just like Jaina was before before BFA was announced.
Stuff’s about to go down, lads.
Some bloodsuckers are always trying to ice skate uphill!
But seriously, I’m so hype for the new blade. Bummed that Wesley Snipes won’t be in it, but Mahershala Ali will knock it out of the park
Now with 8.2.5 it seems unlikely to see them in the Horde given they were more Sylvanas than Horde even if people like Rokhan were going to give them a chance so hard to see.
With sylvanas out of the picture for now, I can’t see any horde allied races that could make it into BFA at this point beyond gilblins, vulpera, or ugh… lightforged undead.
Have faith in the Dark Lady. Perhaps Derek truly is a sleeper agent and he’s just waiting for the right time to re-deadify Calia.
I can dream.
I almost wish they never had Rohkan say that they should be given a chance and need a home. It gave me a lot of hope that just maybe San’layn had a chance just like DK and forsaken. With what Sylvanas has done, and what’s happening to anyone working with her, it just does not seem likely.
After just having overthrown a tyrant, there’s no way those in power would take a look at San’layn and be like “You know what? You can have a home now, we know you’re not like her.”
