I think people just like to make the thematic comparison between HE and San'layn of being Elves, so they seem like a good counterpoint. Like I would say that Mok'nathal and Half Elves would make a good thematic pair.
There's also the bit againts of being "yet another type of elf!" so there's that.
As for racial mounts go, It has to be some sort of bat! Or bloody gargoyle ohhh that would be cool.
It does have to be some sort of bat. I agree 100%... but the major gigantic glaring problem is... flying. Argh! None of the racial mounts can fly!
...But come on. How cool.. how cool... would it be if they could have a racial ability rather than mount where they turn into a cloud of bats?!
Ohhhhhhh now THAT would be sweet lmao, DH's would be so jelly tho, but on the other hand, A flying "Running Wild" would be the most awesome thing ever lol.

I'd love San'layn/Darkfallen as an Allied Race. <3
Thanks so much! We would too, also awesome shades :P I keep forgetting to equip my sunglasses when I log off. Isn't a shame that we can't transmog them?! Drives me nuts!
Yes!
Mirial is my Banker, and has been for a long time, so she can wear all my favourite, cool and rare stuff without ever having to worry about removing it.
/Even more support for San'Layn/ Darkfallen. <3
Well at least now I know that the High Elf allied race mental illness isn't Exclusively on the Alliance.
Have a bump, I hope blizz reads these posts so like HE megathread they know the Idea isn't as universaly loved.
Has there ever been any addition to the game, in the entirety of WoW's history, that
was "universally loved?"
Not even gnomes, that have been around since vanilla, are universally loved.
We were talking a bit more about the racial mounts and such for San'layn, and what would be cool--a partially zombified horse could work out actually. It would be similar to the Forsaken, which would be pretty appropriate if Forsaken are the golden link to bringing San'layn into the Horde. They were for Blood Elves, so... why not?
What about undead wild dreamrunner, like this:

There's no lore that link the wild dreamrunners to the san'layn but i think that aesthetically they match

Yeah...it's been a long time since we got a 'non-mount' mount for a race, and since it has to be a ground mount (unless they completely break precedent compared to the other allied races but since they start at 20 a flying mount is a no-no)....maybe something like the vampire lords from Skyrim where they can levitate/float but not truly fly? Add some creepy vampire/undead spell effects and it would be awesome.

Because mount collectors hate it and most people don't use their racial mount anyway.
If Horde get vampire elves I will cross over for sure.

I wouldn't mind that at all, I love the courser models so much! I think it'd be really cool, to be honest. I also wish that one was tamable x.x.
I know mount collectors might be annoyed but consider me this--worgen don't have a racial mount and there's no one on Horde that does that, so technically Horde have the advantage. Bats or Blood mist would be super cool and even things out. And hey! The mist wouldn't have to fly. I think it'd be really cool. Saying this as a Hordie too... (granted, I also am bias and am thinking blood mist or bats would be so much cooler than some random racial mount :D)

Finally remembered to log out with mine on this time!!! Argh, don't you wish these were moggable?! It drives me nuts!
we all know they'd just give us an undead/rotting Chocobo, sorry i mean Hawkstrider, as a mount

I have Horse AND Chocobo fatigue. Like I liked the Voidstrider, but it really doesn't even make sense that they exist? XD
TBH, there are more interesting options on the Northrend fauna, another chocobo would be lame.
The mount could be a dark hound like one of Nathanos's dogs. He even uses one as a mount during the battle for Lordaeron scenario.

I agree 100% there. I'd rather have nothing for a racial mount than another chicken. Or like I said, a neat racial ability that wouldn't be able to fly but sort of would be mist or a cloud of grounded bats.

Yes I like this idea too, those models are amazing!

Let me just say that a skeletal chocobo could be really awesome.

Would it tho? IMO it would look more like the remnants of the rotisserie chicken had for diner.
Now, an skeletal Dragonhawk? Now THAT would be sweet.

Concept idea for what you're thinking of, look at the model under the list :D
I kind of want to kick off a discussion on what the starter hunter pet would be. I was thinking that something resembling undead dark hound would do the trick.
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look.php?id=darkhound2_white
http://www.wow-petopia.com/look.php?id=darkhound2_green
Imagine something that resembles one of these but with noticeable rot around the face and along the back, have some ribs poke out here and there but nothing too skeletal though. For an added touch it's mane and the fur around the legs could be matted with caked on blood.
I figured that this would be much more unique than some generic bat as our starter pet. Vampires have been known to have sway over wolves and hounds in mythology as well as books and TV series. So, why not give them a nightmarish blood hound to assist in hunting down their prey?

I love this idea so much. I think it'd be more interesting than a generic bat for sure. Plus, those models are amazing. And caked on blood? Yes please?! Epic ^^ If we do end up with a generic bat, though, maybe we could have a bat model like Hi'reek, at least in terms of coloration. But your idea definitely has my vote and would fit the aesthetic well.
Also yeah my vote isn't in an undead hawkstrider at all, I can't stand those chickens :P

I'm glad that you approve! One thing that I forgot to mention though, I'd classify it as a wolf so you'd get the leech passive due to it being a ferocity pet. That way the pet itself would mesh with the vampiric theme even more!

Neatooo! But indeed, it would make them the only AR with a flying mount. Yet nonetheless, it would be pretty cool XD.
OH! What a about a grounded dragonhawk -that cn't fly because, well, it dead- it could crawl with it's mangled wings.
