Same server but different zones

Hi, i wonder if anyone experience the same situation.

I’m playing in a Oceanic connected realm Both my main and alt are in the same server, Frostmourne. However i realised that both my toons are in different zones, how is that so?

Scenario 1:
Community feast - parked both toons there, 1 had a bigger crowd than the other. (different group of players)

Scenario 2:
In Valdrakken, two different group of players depending on which toon i’m on. Some mates can see main, some don’t.

Is this a common thing? Or what’s going on here?

It’s normal. No idea exactly how it works but obvious that population gets balanced across multiple servers, with each one controlling players from dozens of different realms. During non-busy times you’ll almost always see fellow realm-mates around you but when it gets busy players from same realm may be distributed across lots of different servers.
