Same faction ninja skinning of devilsaur has become a serious issue on my server. It works like this:
You tag a devilsaur.
You kill the devilsaur.
You loot the devilsaur.
Some same faction rogue/druid (anyone can do it, just easiest for stealth) sits on on the corpse spamming a skinning macro.
The other player gets the skinning tag because there is a .5sec delay between looting and skinning for the person that got the kill.
There is no recourse for this. You can’t kill them to defend your loot. They will always get the skin over you. This needs to be addressed.
If Blizzard put a 5-10sec tag on skinning a mob after you looted it, the issue would be completely solved. A simple fix for a very toxic issue.
If anyone else has some ideas about this, please feel free to add your input.
you could try and get them server wide blacklisted for ninjaing. I mean if he’ll ninja your leather maybe he’ll ninja some other loot yeah?
as far as ToS goes I’m pretty sure they’re in the clear. but the solution of like a 5-10 sec skinning lockout for someone other than the one that killed the mob I like.
Its not a misunderstanding issue. The people I have had do this are well aware I am killing the devilsaur to skin it, they are well aware they can win the skin-off, and they make good gold for minimal effort doing so.
When confronted about it, they say the usual things like “git gud” and I have even had one go so far as to have his entire guild spam report me in an attempt to get me banned, which obviously failed as I did nothing wrong.
My server does have a blacklist discord going, but as of right now there are too many people on the server for it to matter much. These aren’t the days of 2000 population servers, my server has 10k+ people and the ninjas are not suffering any consequences.
Don’t get me wrong, I dont think they should be banned as like Vellar said they haven’t broken ToS. However, a simple 5sec skinning tag would correct the issue.
If it is any consolation, I have experienced very similar issues with members of my own faction. It is deliberate, and calculated theft, at least in my opinion. Barring people being deliberate thieves, try to remember that this a community and you should be vocal about the same faction people who attempt to do this. It is every hordes responsibility to promote healthy and fun atmosphere.
Unfortunately, I don’t think Blizzard will do anything about this because they don’t want to change classic from how it was. It would be really nice though.
Very few people are going to blacklist someone over skinning a Devilsaur that you killed, scummy as it may be. Even if people do blacklist this person, the list is entirely ineffective due to the number of players on each realm.
That makes no sense. How is not making changes somehow making a change?
We are making a whole-hearted attempted at getting proven thieves blacklisted, however the shear number of players makes this more difficult than it sounds.
Also, some of the ninja looters are under the umbrella of protection provided by the larger raid guilds on the server, meaning a blacklist attempt would be entirely unsuccessful.
I have even approached GMs of these guilds with screenshot evidence of the offense and basically been laughed out of the conversation.
I know that Blizzard is unlikely to make this small adjustment, but there is always that chance. They have been known to make much more noticeable changes that causes minimal to no ill effects (auto-loot, ect).
We have yet to run into that issue on my server. Almost all the devilsaur farming is done by solo or at most groups of three people.
A solo person can still reliably tag mobs even against a group, and a tag on the skinnable corpse for a few seconds protects your kills against a group trying to steal it.
Kill them for an hour and don’t loot a single one. Let the corpses decay. After an hour of this they will jump layers or move on after raising holy heck in chat. Then skin away. They want to be scum? Be worse.
