SAG-AFTRA board wants gaming industry including Activision-Blizzard to go on strike

The math by the people who support unions will tell you somehow magically prices wont go up if a company spends more. I dont know how math works in fairy tale land but i’m sure someone will tell you.

They wont get new writers, you still get Christie Golden. So you’re stuck with Twighlight fanfic levels of writing.

Well at least that really hit the theme of Shadowlands being in hell and all

Practically they didn’t have a choice; if this goes through the value of actors and writers will go through the floor as the studio’s Utilize more and more AI at the expense of actual humans and we wind up with content that is completely soulless.

The fact that people in this thread are fine with the possibility of the studio’s winning out with this is quite frankly horrifying as someone who has studied and participated in film making.

I’ve never needed an actor, a story board artist, a boom mike operator or anything else from the entertainment industry…

COVID showed me that I need doctors, fire fighters, truckers, convenience store workers, electricians, plumbers, and everyone else that actually makes this world function.

I may be mistaken, but wasn’t the cast of Gilligan’s Island one of the first to complain about almost no residuals after the show went into syndication? That show is still being played to this day at this very moment.

The point

Your head

$26000/yr is not a livable wage regardless of what you do.

This is not the solution. The solution is, as always: [heck] you, pay us

Ironic words to say on a video game messaging board.

Or the film was just pure garbage.

I think COVID restriction may make another comeback…

Skynet will become a reality.

How in the world did we entertain ourselves before the invention of moving pictures? :sunglasses:

Which, on a list of the most important things in life, probably comes in around #127 or #128.

I am not sure I would even have a list 1/2 that long.

Older TV shows are more difficult but yes, they get residuals too. The big that comes to mind was years ago and the Eddie Haskel debacle.

SAG made a deal with the studios for old tv shows being shown overseas. Then they started collecting millions on said shows… but somehow never paid it out. The man who played Eddie Haskel from “Leave it to Beaver” had to sue them after being put off for years. SAG’s response was they didn’t have a system in place to pay out the residuals.

It was a mess.

It’s a good thing for the people who actually make these games we enjoy. :muscle:

That sounds right. There were a number of actors that were royally screwed over then, as well as in the following years.

The studio let it slip that writers make 9k a week!! The new deal is they make 11k a week which the studio will approve. Writers make more in a month than most people in a year.

The only hang up is the writers want forced minimum sized writers rooms.

Just a bunch of rich people fighting over more money.

I totally get the fight for AI rights and residuals.

Where did you hear that writers are making 9k a week?

And the Oscar for dumbest comment in this forum post goes to….

Do you only watch twitch and low count YouTube stars? If not, 95% of what you consume is union work.

You haven’t felt the effect of the strike yet too. In the new year there will be very little new content on platforms. They lost their spring and summer shoot. Can’t post in winter now.
Enjoy your re runs of friends.

I’d rather watch re-runs of friends then the trash they churn out now.

I think the more important question is where do they get that “most people” make less than 11k a year?
