SAG-AFTRA board wants gaming industry including Activision-Blizzard to go on strike

How will this effect us I wonder? They strike, get better pay, then Blizz informs us that sub prices are going up because they have to provide better pay?
10 years ago I’d laugh at the absurdity. Today? I’m no longer laughing, after seeing the whole world going cray-cray and imploding…

I used to have talent scouts as well as real sag aftra members always try to get me to join
and be an actor. I might try soon. But not under union. Then maybe once established then I would join.

If you don’t like the product, don’t purchase it. People that work for a living deserve to have protections. It’s not about your dollar, it’s about where your dollar goes, and the shareholders don’t care about your rights as a customer any more than they care about the rights of the workers that make the product that you enjoy. It’s every worker’s right to enjoy the fruits of their labor, and to enjoy the protections that go along with it.

I wish you luck. You’ll need to work on a SAG project and get a Taft-Hartley to join. That is the hard part, getting on a union project as a non-union actor.

They’re protesting the right thing, honestly.

86% of actors (a group that consists of MUCH more than the big Hollywood A-listers) don’t even make $26k annually and Bob Iger has been driving Disney into the ground and makes that much in a single day doing so. Most actors, screen and voiceover, are horrifically underpaid considering just how much money the projects they’re lending their talents to are making.

if they refuse to do the work for subpar pay, they’ll have to increase the pay. its kind of their fault for staying in the industry when they don’t believe they are getting paid a living wage. its not like its a field they had to go to college for years to get into.

Are you serious? I’m not sure what you’re even trying to say here.

Stage and movie actors? What about them?

The amount of money someone makes has zero bearing on my opinion of them. My contempt for actors is down entirely to their rotten hearts, and not the size of their bank account.

Lol buncha spoiled low talent writers

i mean SAG+AFTRA in this case, but the statement applies to the WoW writers too.

Okay. You can dislike actors all you want and still agree that they should be paid enough to… I dunno… live?

Live within your means instead of buying $500 worth of Starbucks eryday.

If actors care about making enough to live they should learn to weld and then act in their free time.

My brother or sister in Christ, the overwhelming majority of actors literally cannot afford to live because they’re living on a sub-$26000 salary.

I think SAG members should make less. Everything SAG people put out is crap, either political propaganda or bland minmaxed corporate product. Randos on Youtube put out 25x better content than anything happening under SAG control. I hope striking to not get replaced by AI gets them replaced by AI.

Sister.

And if all else fails, they can always learn to code.

I have a modestly adequate DVD collection of old movies that I enjoy, from silent films to 007 to Star Wars to spaghetti westers; from King Kong (1933) to Lawrence of Arabia to A Bridge Too Far. They can strike as long as they feel it necessary. Doesn’t affect my entertainment pursuits in the least bit.

And if the gaming industry goes on strike, I simply drag out a 10-yr old laptop, fire it up, and play Age of Empires I and II, GATO, Panzer General, Command & Conquor, etc, until their strike is over. I played computer games for YEARS before online play became a thing; I can do it again if I have to.

I hope that everyone who makes your life better rises up to make you realize just how important they are to your life.

They aren’t SAG members, so they don’t need to :stuck_out_tongue:

I really need to step away from the forums. The edgy white dude syndrome is just too much for me to take.
