Should there be a Safe Space forum section? A place where rules are strictly and heavily enforced. No trolling, no harassing, no antagonizing posts, no disruption of off topic spam in threads, positive and “feel good” postings only, type section?
The moderation in this section should be as impactful and as real as the Customer Support section.
I believe a Safe Space forum section, that is heavily moderated, would benefit the community as a whole. More posters may feel safer to post here as they would not have fear of being hammered down on with negativity that makes up a large portion of the General Discussion section.
Wouldn’t such a subforum be totally dead/a ghost-town though?
The front-page of GD is already fairly PG13 as it is, but even on here I notice the most popular/active threads (…the ones that get like 1000+ replies in under a week) tend to be the controversial or politics-based threads. For example: threads about LGBTQ, threads about body type 1 and 2, threads involving Trump/Biden, etc
If you find people breaking the forum rules feel free to report them. I’m certainly not unsympathetic to wanting the the forums to be less toxic (even though I’m kinda thinking the post is bait) but I don’t see them moderating any forum more than they already do.
The rules should be re-written to be specific and not so ambiguous. They should then be reinforced to a T and fairly. It’s very weird when someone gets infracted for disagreeing with someone else but then you see people with colored text trolling and nothing happens.
Imo any place with heavy moderation tends to not go well - regardless of the intentions behind it. It quickly becomes biased in favor of those mods (again for better or for worse)
